No sound on Realtek ALC897 - HP Victus 15L Gaming Desktop

Hi! I’ve installed Manjaro since about two weeks and couldn’t get sound output from the rear panel jack :slight_smile:

I’m using Pipewire, I’ve tried retasking pins with hdajackrestask but couldn’t get it to work, also tried to tweak settings using pavucontrol but nothing.
I dual boot Windows on a separate drive (with Fast Boot disabled) and the jack works there, so it’s not a hardware issue.

I’ve also checked with alsamixer that Auto mute is disabled and that the levels are not low.
I’ve eyeballed journalctl output and couldn’t see any significant audio-related error.

Does anybody have any idea?

Option snd_hda_intel dmic_detect=0 was useful to disable internal digital microphones on Intel laptops, but should not be needed on a desktop system that does not have any internal microphones

I suggest find and remove this option. If option was added as a GRUB boot option in /etc/default/grub GRUB should be updated after option has been removed

sudo update-grub

Removed the option and updated GRUB, got nothing :confused:

I suggest:

  1. run “sudo alsa-info.sh” to get ALSA data for working ALC897 device
  2. Open a report at bugzilla.kernel.org for Product: Drivers, Component:Sound (ALSA)
  3. Attach both sets of alsa-info data to show non-working and working states
    (that should be sufficient for ALSA maintainers to sort out a kernel patch)
