No sound from Musescore

Hi! I just installed Musescore, and I’m not getting any sound from it. Nothing else about Musescore seems to be having any issues. Pulse Audio control shows me a there’s a playback module for it, but doesn’t register any sound coming from the app. I’m having no audio issues from any other sources if that wasn’t already clear. I don’t even know how to go about diagnosing the issue! Yes I rebooted. Also double-checked for missing dependencies, no issues there.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Trying to think ahead to relevant diagnostic information, here’s the result of pulseaudio --dump-conf

Long shot here - make sure that Musescore is not muted on the task manager while it’s running. I run it on KDE and there is a white audio icon over the Musescore icon when it’s not muted; there’s a red line through the audio icon when it is muted.

Yep, not muted on the taskbar.

I can confirm this bug. Version 4.0.2 included the soundfont in the installed files:

/usr/share/mscore-4.0/sound/
/usr/share/mscore-4.0/sound/MS Basic.sf3
/usr/share/mscore-4.0/sound/MS Basic_License.md

Versions 4.1.0 and 4.1.1 so far don’t include the soundfont, so they are out-of-the-box unable to play any music.

As a workaround, users can manually download and install it from https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/tree/master/share/sound
It can be installed either system-wide at /usr/share/mscore-4.1/sound or at ~/XDG/Documents/MuseScore4 (or wherever your XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR points to).
