No outputs in PulseAudio for onboard sound (Realtek)

I have recently come over from Windows, so still accustoming myself to the switch.

I have been unable to get audio from my onboard audio. I’ve been searching the forums, and looking through my audio devices in terminal, but still unsure as to how I can get it working, or what the root of the issue is.

My motherboard (B450M) uses Realtek ALC892.

I’m using the rear line-out with headphones.

In the audio mixer configuration, it only has two options which are not listed as “(unplugged) (unavailable)”, both of which are Digital Stereo, and only let me select the S/PDIF port in the output devices tab. I’m currently just running a bluetooth speaker until I can get the outputs working.

Here’s my pacmd list-cards output.

From what I can fathom from above, is that it has everything there, but it’s just not using the ports, or recognising that anything is plugged in. I also tried the front headphone jack with no change.

I have looked through a few topics, and tried to adapt the steps here [AMD] Family 17h (Models 00h-0fh) HD Audio Controller is disabled on LM20, but working on LM19.3 - Linux Mint Forums but to no avail.

Edit: I installed linux515 in the hope it may help, but it’s still the same.

PulseAudio data is showing audio output ports for Line Out and Headphones are not available

  index: 2
	name: <alsa_card.pci-0000_28_00.3>

active profile: <output:iec958-stereo+input:analog-stereo>

ports:

analog-output-lineout: Line Out (priority 9000, latency offset 0 usec, available: no)

analog-output-headphones: Headphones (priority 9900, latency offset 0 usec, available: no)

iec958-stereo-output: Digital Output (S/PDIF) (priority 0, latency offset 0 usec, available: unknown)

PulseAudio will avoid using a profile or port that is not available, so will only use the Digital Output where availability is unknown

Please post more information about ALSA settings for onboard audio device

amixer --card=1

ALSA usuallly has an Auto-Mute Mode control to mute audio output to rear jack Line Out
if a jack is detected as plugged in to the Headphone jack
Users with laptop systems usually want this feature enabled to turn off built-in speakers, but users with desktops systems usually want this jack detection disabled

This command might be all that is needed to get PulseAudio to allow use of analog-output ports

amixer --card=1 sset 'Auto-Mute Mode' disabled

I tried using the auto-mute command, but it said “Invalid command!”

Actually, I’m wondering now if the on-board audio is kaput.

I have also been unable to get on-board audio on Windows. Before installing Manjaro, I wiped my SSD, and also made a partition which I installed Windows 11 on, having used Windows 10 for years (thought I’d probably end up upgrading at some point). So it could just be an issue in both Manjaro and Windows 11, but I’m leaning towards borked on-board audio. My solution is to get a sound card. My front and rear ports don’t register a device in both Windows 11 and Manjaro, but both my speakers and headphones are working fine.

I have been using my monitor’s audio output whilst using Manjaro in the meantime, but it has some kind of audio cutting feature when the audio is low, and there’s no way to turn it off as far as I can tell. It’s very jarring, and so thought it best to get an audio card. (It was either that or a new MB).

Thanks anyway!

Just installed a Soundblaster RX, and it’s working perfectly. Sorry for using up any of your time, and thanks!
