No microphone input on Dell Latitude 3410

Hello everyone,

I’m relatively new to Manjaro, I’ve used it on a personal machine before and I really enjoyed it. I recently changed job and received a new laptop (Dell Latitude 3410) and was told I can remove Windows and install Linux on it, so I installed the Manjaro i3 community edition. I’m not really a Linux expert (until now everything usually just works or is a relatively easy fix via googling).

The latest iso shipped with kernel 5.8.18-1, however, I had issues getting any sound to work, so I downgraded to the latest LTS kernel 5.4.78-1 and installed pulsaudio-git which seemed to have resolved my playback issues. However, I discovered I cannot get my microphones to work.

I can see a mic under pavucontrol input devices, but it does not seem to capture any input…

Other info:

My drives are encrypted (necessary for work), in case that makes any difference
sof-firmware is installed

Any help would be sincerely appreciated!

Hi problem solved :

Change kernel
5.10

Install missing firmware and conf
sudo pacman -S sof-firmware

Reboot
reboot

** If doesnt work restart pulseaudio **
sudo systemct --user restart pulseaudio.service

A small note, the preferred way to manage pulseaudio is using systemctl:

systemct --user restart/start/stop pulseaudio.service
