No menu in GTK3 apps

After reinstalling manjaro, kde version, top menu bars in gtk apps like gimp, gpodder etc stopped showing up. Running the apps from terminal showed only one error: Failed to load module “unity-gtk-module”. I googled and googled and fixed that error by adding some echoes to bashrc… but still no menus in top bars. I’m puzzled what to do next.

Hi @Nugrud and welcome to the Manjaro community.

As a new forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements; in particular, the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

The Update Announcements should check frequently for important update related information. These announcements should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

Please provide system information according to forum requirements in the links listed (above). The output of the following command may be useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --admin --verbosity=8 --filter --no-host --width

Be prepared to provide more information and outputs from other commands when asked.

Regards.

Can you show us the complete command and it’s output?
… it might not be an actual error, but just a warning
effectively leading you astray by chasing after it

Apart from that my anecdote:
I have a pristine Plasma install in a VM and have just updated it.
Installed gpodder to test and it works flawlessly without the issue you describe.
Menus and all o.k.
This is not under wayland, but xorg.

You might have changed something in your installation (different, incompatible theme, perhaps).

Then maybe a good idea (my sledgehammer) create a new User and try it there.

Oh yeah, for a new test user it works… thanks. I know now what I changed: I turned on a global menu, because the menu appears on a plasma menu panel widget. Maybe it would be good if kde knew that if there are no such widgets in your workspace the global menu should automatically switch off.
