I suggest you to go trough Backlight - ArchWiki for better understanding and eventually a fix for you.

I attempted to install xbacklight but it failed. I tried a few other commands from that wiki but they weren’t found.

i think you’ve got the same issue that i had with the latest update. the wrong backlight-module got installed and therefor the brightness couldn’t get adjusted.
please post the output of

ls /sys/class/backlight/

I pasted it in the konsole and hit enter to no avail, text turned green and underlined but no output.

edit /etc/default/grub with an editor like kate (to save with sudo rights)
and add in
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=
the following parameter to the existing ones

acpi_backlight=native

save the file and run the following

sudo update-grub
sudo mkinitcpio -P

reboot and report to us

the main problem is

Device-2: NVIDIA GA102 [GeForce RTX 3090] vendor: ZOTAC driver: nouveau

your card is too modern for nouveau-driver. you have to install the propietary nvidia-driver !

unfortunately that just leads into my next problem. I can’t install or update anything through pamac, everything fails or conflicts.

okay, you wrote this is a newly installed system. i would recommend that you start with a clean and complete re-installation and you choose the use of propietary drivers at the setup menu.

I don’t see how that has anything to do with installs.

your actual graphic-driver is nouveau and this driver does not work well with your nvidia-card. the driver controls also your brightness and because the nouveau driver doesn’t work your brightness-control isn’t avaiable too.
you’re on a fresh install, reinstalling everything right is not a big deal. if you’re running your system for longer it won’t be so easy to clean up the mess afterwards.

You could tell us the error messages.

This fixed the problem on my asus laptop. Thank you very much
