No Desktop on Fresh Install - Fixed it

Just installed Latest Manjaro KDE and the live system looks fine. I boot and see a login screen. I enter password and wait a few minutes but all I see is a blank screen.

Why no desktop? What do I look for?

Did a reinstall and when I booted to the log in screen I selected the second kernel option and also chose Wayland. Now I see a desktop!!!

Did you remember to configure swap?

Edit:- Moved thread to the Feedback category as no support is requested.

Did you use an old ISO?
Did you have an EOL kernel?

(I believe the answer to both is ‘yes’)

PS.

According to your profile you are using a very EOL kernel.
I might assume it is simply inaccurate - but do consider updating that information.

I have several PC’s. I installed the latest Manjaro KDE. The PC I used has 4 G DDR5 and I set a 4 G swap file.

My profile might need updating so I will check it after this post and update it to the main PC I use.
When I installed to the particular PC I was using it is difficult to determing the kernel in use on booting as both start with the same description and it is hard to see the full kernel name.

I don’t believe that… DDR5 is still a new technologie and today’s PC’s and Laptop’s should have at least 8-16Gbyte RAM. If anyone would sell you a PC/laptop with DDR5 and only 4Gbyte RAM, i would call it scam.

Boot with your Bootstick and post your system settings from Live Boot.

inxi --admin --verbosity=5 --filter --no-host --width

Also use the same command after you booted it from your install and post it also in our Forum (both as code please).

Im expect you want to run your Desktop with X11, is that correct?

I would call that a typical retail sales technique; followed closely by that glorious term known as upsell where buyers are encouraged (forced) to buy additional hardware in order for their system to be usable as more than a paperweight.

And that’s why I like online shopping! No annoying sales reps.

On the other hand, I do like to purchase locally, from small businesses, even if they are sourcing their product from the Mega Corps, even if it does cost me a bit more.

Wasn’t concerned about Wayland or X11 - the default on boot was X11.

Both listed kernels are now booting.

That is true. I also like to support them; but

  1. Not everything I’m looking for is always available at a smaller business;
  2. I have very limited funds, even after saving several months, so tend to look for the best price; and
  3. with my hearing difficulty I don’t really like interacting with too many people; it can be very exhausting. Especially people I don’t know and don’t know me.
