This seems like a 1TB drive, probably in you machine. I almost want to think it’s a laptop. And a 250GB external HDD.
If you tried installing it on the ext ertenal USB drive, then I’m afraid it seems you’re out of luck. Because the Calamares installer does not support USB installations IIRC.
I believe it can be done, but I’m not sure about it and neither do I know how if it could.
I originally had windows installed on my SSD, i went through the process of installing linux on that drive, replacing the windows installation, i went through all the steps and everything seemed fine, i was able to boot it normally until i tried the whole driver thing xD. not sure whats going on here… what do you mean by Linux wasn’t really installed? Sounds kinda scary haha
I mean, AFAIK Calamares don’t install on external drives, which seem to be the 250G one, so I have 0 idea how it worked, if it worked or where the data went…
Edit:
It isn’t external, but I still don’t know and require reinforcements…
Maybe @bogdancovaciu can help me out here, because he has much more experience than me.
I feel kinda dumb with it being necessary to call in/await reinforcements…but I’m guessing that’s part of learning…
i always boot with proprietary driver from the live media if there is an Nvidia GPU that is known to work better with them, and the GeForce GTX 1080 is one of those, then i do the install. That ensures the install of video-nvidia the proper way.
in case of Gnome DE i always enable the early KMS as is not doing funky things that way
also in case of Gnome i remove gdm-plymouth and install normalgdm and i remove plymouth from /etc/mkinitcpio.conf HOOKS line and then i run: sudo mkinitcpio -P
and sudo update-grub
Your solution has seemed to have helped! Thank you very much! I can’t wait to get familiar with Linux, this is all very new to me, the most I’ve used the terminal is when I’m using nom to build my little react apps😂,
Thanks guys your help is appreciated
