Network disconnects for a minute after sleep

Hello,

I’ve been experiencing very annoying issue for quite a while: After my PC wakes from sleep mode, it disconnects from the network and will not re-connect for about a minute. That means that if I don’t have any important work, it is actually faster to just reboot the system than to wait for the network to come back.

Here are logs of my system resuming. Note that system was resumed at 09:25:52 while network reconnected at 09:27:40.

Author's note: System is in sleep mode at that point. I waited couple of minutes and then I turned it back on.

(I’ve noticed there are couple of AMD gpu related errors in the logs. Will report those in the separate ticket).

Any idea what could cause the network issues and how to resolve them?

Thanks.

That’s the wake-up point:

Looking at your log file: a lot of time is lost activating IPV6. Are you using IPV6 internally on your network? If not: disable IPV6 on the router internal side and on Manjaro too and try again

If that would not help, please provide the same output filtered for only NetworkManager (I.E. Add | grep NetworkManager)

:innocent:

Thanks for your help so far. I’ve disabled the IPv6 and it did not appear to help.

Here is new log without IPv6 and with NetworkManager grepped:

The only thing I can think of it taking so much time is:

Do you have a reserved IP address for your machine on the DHCP server (most of the time your router) or is the IP lease time extremely short on your DHCP server?

Yes, I have a reserved IP set up on the router. I’m not sure if it is router though, none of the other devices on my network have that issue and PC gets IP immediately on reboot.

set it to static on the nic, that solved my issues right away.

Damn! You beat me to my point: I was going to say the exact same thing!

Thanks for the help so far, both of you. I’ve set the static IP and the the static DNS. Issue has significantly improved, but it still takes ~30 seconds for internet to come back:

OK, that’s <21 seconds…

Can you please:

  1. Change to a brand new CAT-6 cable
And if that doesn’t improve the response:
  2. fix the Ethernet speed at 100mbps? (if you don’t know how to do that, shout out)

(Last-ditch effort)
