Native linux games don't launch from steam but Proton layer does

As of around October last year (can’t remember the specific date) most games have stopped working. For example I play Company of Heroes 1 using the proton layer. This works fine. But Europa Universalis 4 with native support shows it is launching next to the steam button but after a few seconds the button will change to “Play” again.
So I tried running it from the terminal and check if there were any error messages

Checking the path shows that it does exist actually:

Looking online I can find very little on pressure-vessel-wrap.
I already tried reinstalling the games that are not working, and Steam itself. Interestingly enough the games themselves do work. I can launch them from inside their own folders but then multiplayer is not possible.

Is there anyone with a similar or with some more info?

Thank you for your advice and patience. I checked the gaming category and could not find any posts that were similar to my situation. I checked ProtonDB and PCGamingWiki and could not find tips and tricks for the games I have (Europa Universalis, WarThunder, Left 4 Dead 2) that might solve this.

To give a better explanation I mostly play three games, Europa Universalis 4, WarThunder and Company of Heroes 1. EU4 and WT have stopped working recently while CofH1 still works fine. I also checked Left 4 Dead 2 and it also doesn’t work.

It’s nothing new that developers release Linux or Mac versions alongside the Windows version and don’t really test them due to low demand and time.

If you activate the Proton compatibility layer in the steam settings of the game and then start it, then it can be assumed that the problem is not with Manjaro.

Although that is a fair assumption to make when one game fails to load, I think it is a bit of a stretch to assume this when four games fail to load. In addition, Left 4 Dead 2 and Company of Heroes 2 (I have both Company of Heroes 1 and 2) are relatively old games, and I don’t think that the recently released new updates for these games.

As I mentioned in my first post, looking up the game in the file folder and launching Europa Universalis 4 from there it does work, but multiplayer does not function. So I still need to launch it from steam.

In the mean time I have also checked WarThunder and it launches fine without steam so I could circumvent steam here.
Left 4 Dead 2 is actually not natively supported but it launched using wine, but after the load screen it gives an error saying it needs steam to run and returned me to my desktop.

Perhaps the better description would be that Steam cannot launch any game for me except Company of Heroes 1.
I checked if perhaps Company of Heroes 1 was installed in a different folder path which causes it to work while the others don’t but they are all located in the same folder.

Try some other place on your filesystem and see if this is a solution, the linked comment has some suggestions.

In essence, the container mounts its own /usr so it cannot access your library.
