My system keeps freezing for a few seconds

Hello,
I’m using Manjaro for a few days and i’m loving it, but i have a big issue that is driving me a bit crazy and wanting to go back to other dist.
My system freezes for a few seconds and it appears to be related to high IO because when i’m downloading, installing something or doing something that requires a bit of IO, it seems to freeze more. During the freezes, i can use my mouse and sometimes other open applications.

I use the laptop with the lid closed connected to 2 external monitors, but this don’t seem to have a hand on the issue, because it even freezes when working only with laptop monitor.

If i’m installing something from AUR the system sometimes freezes for about 5 seconds and gets supper laggy.

Things i have tried:

  • Reinstalling Nvidia drivers
  • Creating swap using file (for some reason the installed didn’t create a swap partition)

My system info:

Thanks for the help!

Hello @kanazaca,

if you think its IO related you can use htop to have an eye on it.

htop: F2 -> Meters -> Disk IO

… will show you more and could help you further.

And do you have a glue where these 47 network interfaces came from?
And you using kernel 5.15, does the system shows the same behaviour on newer kernels like 6.0 or 6.1?

Thanks for the reply.

I used htop to see IO, but it doesn’t seem to be the issue because it’s too low and i have an Toshiba nvm disk that is pretty capable of these tasks. I don’t have this issue on other distros.

All of these networks should be docker related networks.

Didn’t test 6.0 or 6.1 kernel. Should i try it?

And are you download you files to your nvm or directly to the ntfs partition?

I only use my ntfs drive for backups.

All of my work is done on the nvm.

first disable baloo - system settings/file search and uncheck all options, click apply and see if it helped… if not install the 6.1 kernel as mentioned by kisun and try with it…

Did you ever find a fix for this? Because i recently built a new PC and tried out windows again and just hated it as always. And have always gone back to manjaro. (who cares) Anyways I’m having the same issue your having. When I’m downloading something my PC will just freeze for around 5 seconds.
