My System has been freezing a lot

So, recently I have been experiencing a lot of system freezes I have no idea why, I then try to gently reboot using the REISUB but the system doesn’t respond at all, tried as well the shutdown button I have that set already, no luck, only option is to hard reboot which I am not a fan of as I don’t want to ruin my HDD, I need guidance on locating the problem and fixing it, thanks.

So, If I’m able to interpret correctly, the last freeze was caused due to Vivaldi-bin dumping 1000 cores, but that’s not what causes the freeze every time.
I have also put the last 3 boots logs, I am guessing that I need to change the thermal paste to the laptop as the heat is rising and it’s getting super hot.

Since even Reisub failed, i guess you may have really a temp issue.

Since you not specify “super hot”, i would try to force your CPU with demanding process. Under Windows i would normally recommend to use Prime95, TBH i don’t know what to do under Linux that comes close to Test your CPU. :man_shrugging:

So i guess, i would use Handbrake or Shotcut (without filter’s) to do Video Encoding and check your CPU Temp after 10min.

To solve the Temp Problem, clean Dust from the Ventilation slits and get sure that you don’t put it on the Bed or other Cotton stuff.

Replacing Thermalpaste in a Laptop sucks, this stuff is really fragile. Compared
to PC Hardware you can break even faster something.

But the purpose and effect of it is that potential problems (file system inconsistencies included) are minimized.
A hard reset won’t ruin a HDD - but it leaves the file system in an unclean state and in need of fsck
which will have to correct less inconsistencies when the system was shut down gently and not by cutting the power.

To specify what is “super hot” it’s as in the weather in Cairo, Egypt, which averages currently 36 - 38 and is expected next Thursday to be 42 Celsius.

I went ahead and updated the BIOS, thank you I did not notice or get a notification of the upgrade.

I downloaded lenovolegionlinux as recommended and I now I believe the fans are working better than they were, and I also can monitor with psensor now.

I believe I did this due to me wanting to switch between the dedicated GPU and integrated one, I have AMD CPU with Nvidia GPU.

Quick update here, I did as the article mentioned acpi_backlight=vendor however my brightness wasn’t working, I returned it to acpi_backlight=native as this makes my brightness work as intended.
