Microphone not available after switching setup

Hey everybody,
i regularly work with my laptop at two different locations (home office, office) with different loudspeakers / microphones. for some time now, i have had the problem that my microphone is no longer recognised when i change location - especially in teams and google meet, i can no longer select a microphone and therefore cannot participate in calls. after a system restart, everything is ok again until i change location again.

Does anyone have any ideas? the micro is listed in the system mixer and also shows a signal when I speak.

i would be grateful for any help - i can work in principle, but the constant restarts are really annoying

It might be possible to get microphone working after changing location, and audio devices, by restarting audio server

systemctl --user restart pulseaudio

If that device is unplugged to change location, system will use another available source as the default-source

I suggest use this command to find the correct name of the other microphone source

pactl list sources short | grep -v monitor

If the other microphone source is the Logitech headset shown in previous topic, and the source name has not changed

pactl set-default-source alsa_input.usb-Logitech_Zone_Vibe_125_2215MH00URA8-00.mono-fallback

Data in post #4 shows all 3 audio sources are suspended, so system might be suspending audio devices when changing location, or devices might just be suspended when idle and not in use

to check reason for device suspend:

pactl list sources

to de-suspend all sinks and sources if they have were suspended when changing location by suspending/hibernating system

pactl suspend 0

still is not selectable in Teams

I don’t use MS Teams, but it should have an option to use default device for microphone input (PulseAudio default-source), so the default-source can be configured automatically, or source can be selected in KDE GUI controls

If a named audio device is selected in VOIP settings, the VOIP software might create a direct connection to ALSA device (bypassing PulseAudio) but audio settings are more likely to fail if device is already connected to PulseAudio

to check connection from PulseAudio source to audio applications

pactl list source-outputs

or check audio sources in KDE GUI controls

to check if USB device is set as the default-source

pactl get-default-sink

Thank you, @nikgnomic - I will try again as soon as problem is back (right now all is running). I should have been more precise: the micro seems to be disables (not available) in all applications or browsers at least - I use teams in Browser (tried several) and the problem occurs also for google meet (also browser video calls) and I tried default audio settings as well as specifically selected Jabra Output… It is always the same picture…

Remove PulseAudio module module-suspend-on-idle temporarily

pactl unload-module module-suspend-on-idle

and check suspend state of audio sources

pacmd dump | grep 'suspend-source alsa_input.usb'

If the response shows USB source is still suspended:
suspend-source alsa_input.usb-0b0e_Jabra_Link_380_305075ED437C-00.mono-fallback ja
Use this command to de-suspend the source

pactl suspend-sink alsa_input.usb-0b0e_Jabra_Link_380_305075ED437C-00.mono-fallback 0

If the response shows USB source is not suspended:
suspend-source alsa_input.usb-0b0e_Jabra_Link_380_305075ED437C-00.mono-fallback nein
and microphone is still not working as expected, install PulseAudio Volume Control

pamac install pavucontrol-qt

Open pavucontrol Input Devices tab

pavucontrol-qt --tab=5

Change all card Profiles to Aus (Off)
and then change Profile for Jabra USB headset to Analog Stereo-Ausgabe+Mono-Eingang
(Analog Stereo-Output+Mono-Input)
and finally, check the Eingang (Input Devices) tab to see if USB microphone is working in audio level meters

In the end that seems to work… Since I have the pavucontrol-qt my mic remains available. Thank you guys so much!
