I want to set the keybinding in such a way that it goes upto 150% volume like in kde , anyway to do that pamixer only give the option to do it temporarily as soon as I lower the volume the max volume goes back to 100% . Please help
bindsym XF86AudioRaiseVolume exec pactl set-sink-volume 0 +10%
this should slowly add up the volume beyond 100% limit
that didn’t worked no i did this and it goes upto 200% in 5% increments. Let me know if I need to change anything.
bindsym $alt + i exec i3-volume -n -p up 5
bindsym $alt + k exec i3-volume -n -p down 5
bindsym $mod+shift+q exec --no-startup-id pactl set-sink-volume 0 200% && pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ +5% && $refresh_i3status

try this
# Use pactl to adjust volume in PulseAudio.
set $refresh_i3status killall -SIGUSR1 i3status
bindsym $mod+shift+q exec --no-startup-id pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ +10% && $refresh_i3status
bindsym $mod+shift+w exec --no-startup-id pactl set-sink-volume @DEFAULT_SINK@ -10% && $refresh_i3status
#set max-limit to 200%
bindsym $mod+shift+a exec pactl set-sink-volume 0 200%
bindsym XF86AudioMute exec --no-startup-id pactl set-sink-mute @DEFAULT_SINK@ toggle && $refresh_i3status
bindsym XF86AudioMicMute exec --no-startup-id pactl set-source-mute @DEFAULT_SOURCE@ toggle && $refresh_i3status
