So when did Mate disappear? It would be so awesome if it went to qt.
The MATE edition was a community edition, not an official edition, and we dropped it a few months ago because there was no one willing to maintain it anymore.
The individual packages are all still in the repository, though.
That is a matter you have to pick up with the upstream developers.
They have chosen gtk
as their widget toolkit, because MATE is after all a forked continuation of GNOME 2.
I disagree. Anyway that would require a huge amount of work, so they’re very unlikely to do that.

But if you want Qt - I suggest LXQt … it was developed side by side with LXDE - the gtk version.
