Acer Monitor "Input Not Supported" for Dell Laptop

I recently discovered that my Dell laptop has an HDMI port, so with recent issues with my main desktop, I thought it’d be fun to have 2 screens for the first time. But when plugging in my Acer monitors HDMI cable into my laptop, Manjaro recognizes it, but on my Acer monitor, it’s saying Input Not Supported. How can I fix this?

I’ll once again provide any information needed.

It just means that the set resolution or frequency is not supported by the monitor. Try a different one (monitor) or different resolution at the settings.

Hey again! And what do you mean another one?

Oh, I don’t have another monitor. But what resolution should I do?
My monitor is 1920x1080 and my laptop is 1366x768.

Can you post the output of:

Look there are 3 frequencies. So probably 60hz is not supported. Most likely it need 59,94hz. That could by changed at the settings.

The monitor?

yes… the monitor which connected to HDMI.

Didn’t seem to work. I tried 59.94hz, 60hz, 50hz then 30hz.

Try any combination.

But I guess the EDID file is not there, so it tries to guess what resolution could be possible.

Whenever I do something now it’s saying No Signal.

What else should I try?

check your external hardware first. does the cable meet the hdmi-specification, any cheap chinese-cracker ? check the setup of the acer-display first, use the manual of the display.

I have no manual for this monitor, and the external hard drives/portable hard drives I have are not cheap. They’re 2tb and they’re expensive.

At least share what kind of gpus you have:

google is your friend and i wrote check the hdmi-cable for quality and specs !

Good here is the model. Looking at that: 23.8" Acer R240HY - Specifications

  • your HDMI cable must be version 1.4 or higher

Anything else seems to be okay.

So what is the issue?

Check your cable if it is version 1.4 , try another cable.

“Try another cable?”
I have no other cable than what I have right now.
