Manjaro update today

Hello. I had an update today for Manjaro (did not really pay attention to what it was, said manjaro someting) and something failed and then i only had Video-Nvidia and Video-Nvidia-390xx in my hardware configuration. Then i messed something up so i did a fresh install of Manjaro and now i only have 390xx. I am pretty sure i used 455xx before. Is there anything going on with Manjaro at the moment or is there something i can do to fix this? My knowledge about these kind of things is very limited.

Thanks for your time.

Hello, I think you mean the manjaro-system 20210101-3 update.

Maybe your system got cleaned up and it deleted all the unused nvidia drivers. However I think you can still manually change the drivers.

This should be a good starting point:

Emphasis mine, so please read this:
https://archived.forum.manjaro.org/t/how-to-provide-good-information-in-your-posts/37102
and post some more information so we can see what’s really going on. Now we know the symptom of the disease, but we need some more probing to know where the origin lies…

  • An inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width would be the minimum required information… (Personally Identifiable Information like serial numbers and MAC addresses will be filtered out by the above command)
  • an nvidia-smi would also be welcome

:+1:

I have same issue. I clean installed Manjaro KDE on my PC today and before system update I had option to select nvidia driver 455 from KDE settings (mhwd gui). Now I only have nvidia driver 390.

nvidia-smi

NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.
Understandable because I’m using nouveau now

I can add that this problem is not related to kernel update because I didn’t had 455 version on stock linux-5.9 too. My card is supported by 455 version.

No you don’t:

So that’s normal with nouveau.

So what’s the problem? What doesn’t work???

What doesn’t work? I can’t install latest nvidia drivers (455). After installing that available 390 my GPU is very slow and when I’m launching any game I have literally 4 fps.

Have you installed the 390 drivers? What you uploaded says you are using the nouveau drivers or was that before?

I did a clean install using proprietary drivers and then 455 did install. When i starten to updade it was back just showing 390 but it seemes like 455 is installed and beeing used. Might just be in the hardware configuration there is some issues.

That was been before (when I posted those logs). After installing those 390 drivers mhwd still not showing any newer version available and system went to be very unstable and lagging everywhere. Going back to open source drivers (nouveau) fixed this performance problem (but you know, still not like true proprietary drivers. Still there is problem with only 390 driver showing.

I will not help further because I changed distro but will back if those nvidia issues will be resolved.

cant solve if you leave and refuse to provide information or follow directions.
have fun wherever you are
