Manjaro-tools restrictions for building mhwd

I used to use /home/robin0800/Build/manjaro-tools/chroot
Building Mhwd there is an error of syncing no idea why?
The solution is to shorten the path. Note you must use the full path if you don’t the system ignores this and uses the defalt. So a path of five is obvious too long now for Mhwd.
Note cache and log do not have this restriction why?

I don’t know what your issue is - any attempts to understand would be entirely guesswork - and my current knowledge of shells is limited to some occasional scripting.

The manjaro-tools is a set of bash scripts and as such there may be certain limits that your construct is hitting.

Possibly because there is no complicated path building involved - again - I am guessing…

I do know The buildiso script will construct paths that is much longer than what you set in your configuration.

The chroot_dir variable in manjaro-tools.conf will be extended with $chroot_dir/buildiso/<profile>/x86_64/<filesystem>/ which in turn will be a complete Manjaro Linux file system.

Use your favorite search engine - search for e.g. does bash hava a limitation on how long a filename or filepath can be when autogenerated using variables?

If I recall correct there is also some bind mounts involved when creating the filesystems.

default paths

The defaults can be found in /etc/manjaro-tools/manjaro-tools.conf.

# cache dir where buildpkg, buildtree cache packages/pkgbuild, builiso iso files
# cache_dir=/var/cache/manjaro-tools

# build dir where buildpkg or buildiso chroots are created
# chroots_dir=/var/lib/manjaro-tools

# log dir where log files are created
# log_dir='/var/log/manjaro-tools'

If your current configuration is pointing to a symlink to another partition - that could cause problems with the symlinking created by manjaro-tools - again - I am guessing… because I don’t know the layout of your system

The only configuration folder you should really care about and the only really interesting folder is cache_dir - occasionally the chroots_dir when you want to tweak a certain configuration interim building the filesystem and the final ISO.

changing default paths

If you must change the defaults - keep paths as short as possible

My personal preference is to put chroots_dir and log_dir in the cache folder and the cache_dir in a dedicated ISO folder located at the root of the file system.

# cache dir where buildpkg, buildtree cache packages/pkgbuild, builiso iso files
cache_dir='/miso'

# build dir where buildpkg or buildiso chroots are created
chroots_dir='/var/cache/manjaro-tools'

# log dir where log files are created
log_dir='/var/cache/manjaro-tools'

It is important to remember: while your user starts the script - it is immidiately requesting superuser - therefore - always use the full path in your configured locations.
