Manjaro startet nicht nach frischer Installation und anschließend Update

Hallo zusammen,

ich habe heute zum ersten Mal Manjaro (Cinnamon 21.1.2) ausprobiert. Die Installation erfolgte via USB Stick auf einer älteren HDD welche ich immer zum Testen verwende. Nach dem ich das Livesystem vom USB Stick getestet habe und dieses auch problemlos lief, habe ich die Installation durchgeführt. Auch diese verlief ohne Probleme. Direkt im Anschluss, nach einem Neustart, habe ich dann unten rechts in der Taskleiste auf das i Symbol geklickt und die vorgeschlagenen Updates, ca. 1,5 GB, automatisch installieren lassen. Seit dem bootet Manjaro nicht mehr. Der Bildschirm bleibt leider schwarz, beim Hochfahren. Strg + Alt + Entf reagiert allerdings noch und das System startet dann neu. Diesen Text schreibe ich aktuell von dem Manjaro Live-System aus. Folgendes habe ich jetzt probiert:

Das hat wohl geklappt und ich befinde mich in dem installierten System!

Nun bin ich mit meinem Latein leider am Ende. Ich komme von Linux Mint und wollte gerne mal ein Rolling Release Linux probieren und würde dieses natürlich auch gerne zum Laufen kriegen. Ich vermute ein Problem mit dem Nvidia Treiber, aber sicher bin ich mir da nicht. Denn während des Updatevorgangs kam eine Meldung das Pakete entfernt werden müssen da diese zu Konflikten führen, bezogen auf den Nvidia Treiber. Ich habe mir das nicht richtig angeschaut, da dies nebenbei geschah. Weiß jemand wie es hier weiter geht und was das Problem genau verursacht hat?

Ich habe kein UEFI aber ich glaube efibootmgr könnte dir weiter helfen. Bin mir aber nicht sicher.
Warum hast du nicht mit den propritären Nvidia Treibern installiert ?

Du solltest vor dem Update den Kernel wechseln.
Kernel 5.13 ist eol (end of life).

Das liegt am EOL kernel, den du da verwendest.

Das klingt immer schlecht (und ist es auch). Solche Meldungen gibt es nicht umsonst und das kann dann durchaus zu nicht bootenden Systemen führen.

Also aktuellen Kernel installieren und dazu passende Grafiktreiber (in Manjaro Repositories bereitgestellt) verwenden.

Jetzt frag ich mich, wie du den Treiber installiert hast?

Es könnte jetzt folgendes passiert sein:

Du hast den Treiber der Version 470xx, aber die Utils sind noch auf Version 495xx. Das führt unweigerlich zu einem Problem.

Um den nvidia Treiber zu wechseln unter Manjaro macht man das mit MHWD, wenn du das alles nicht händisch machen willst:

sudo mhwd -i pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-470xx-prime

Die ist so konfigiert, dass Intel hauptächlich verwendet wird und man GLX Aufgaben an die NVIDIA GPU weitergeben kann mit prime-run <befehl>

Auch was @admdb sagt: Kernel upgrade auf linux515 oder bei einem LTS Kernel wie linux510 bleiben, aber bei einer GTX970 und dem nvidia Treiber bist du bei einer LTS Kernel besser aufgehoben.

Erstmal vielen Dank an alle. Da es ja nur ein Test war und direkt eine frische Installation, ist ja noch nichts passiert. Von daher schon mal alles gut. Nun geht es erstmal um das Verständnis dafür. Das mit dem Kernel hat mir schon mal geholfen.

Nun die Fragen dazu:

Wie installiere ich den 5.10er LTS. Der wäre mein Favorit, da ich weiß das er mit meiner Hardware sauber läuft und ich erstmal für längere Zeit Ruhe hätte. Da bin ich etwas “Debian-verwöhnt”.
Wie verhindere ich im Anschluss das ein neuer Kernel, größer 5.10, installiert wird?
Wie stelle ich sicher, dass jegliche Updates in Zukunft mir nicht das System zerschießen? Z.B. durch Treiberupdates die durch die Aktualisierungsverwaltung angeboten werden aber nicht zum Kernel passen?

Am besten kurz den Link von @andreas85 durcharbeiten.

Der 5.15 wird auch nächster LTS Kernel und wäre auch eine Option.

Wenn du den 5.10er Kernel installierst musst du den wahrscheinlich im Grub-menü per Hand auswählen, da Manjaro standartmäßig den neusten lädt.
Wenn das grub-menü nicht angezeigt wird musst du beim booten kurz ESC drücken.

Und vor dem update wenn der 5.10 oder 5.15 Kernel läuft am besten gleich den 5.13er deinstallieren.

Es wird kein anderer kernel automatisch installiert !
Wenn du ein Update machst (bitte regelmäßig nachdem du hier im Forum nachgeschaut hast), wird nur der vorhandene kernel (5.10) aktualisiert.

Nachdem du den 5.10 installiert hast, kannst du ihn ausprobieren, indem du grub beim booten unterbrichst (ESC) und den 5.10 auswählst.

Wenn alles ok ist, kannst du danach den anderen Kernel (5.13) deinstallieren.

Tip: Aus Erfahrung empfiehlt es sich immer 2 kernel installiert zu halten

Einen davon nutze ich für die tägliche Arbeit (5.10 LTS)
Den anderen um immer mal wieder auszuprobieren ob der neuere auch geht. (5.15 z.B läuft bei mir leider nicht gut)

Ich hab das bei mir so eingestellt, dass immer der 2.neueste kernel gebootet wird wenn ich nix mache (also 5.10)

Ok, nun bin ich gerade dabei den Kernel 5.10.89-1 LTS unter dem Manjaro-Einstellungsmanager zu installieren. Das klappt aber leider nicht. Ich bekomme folgendes ausgegeben:

Das kommt schon nach einer Sekunde und installiert wird nichts. Das Bootmenü von Grub lasse ich mir generell anzeigen, doch da steht auch kein anderer Kernel als der 5.13er zur Auswahl. Die Installation hat so also nicht geklappt. Im Link von andreas85 wurde auf diese Methode hingewiesen. Es hätte so einfach sein können

Dann habe ich versucht den Kernel über die Shell zu installieren, das geht leider auch nicht:

Der Grafikkartentreiber macht mich noch wahnsinnig… Die Ausgabe hier auf der Kommandozeile, wird wohl auch der Grund dafür sein, warum ich den 5.10er nicht im Manjaro-Einstellungsmanager installieren kann.

Weiß noch jemand Rat?

PS: Die gleiche Meldung bekomme ich übrigens auch beim 5.15er Kernel!

Ja, das liegt daran das für kernel 5.13 nvidia-utils v=470.63.01 installiert ist und es kein v=495-44-6 für den Kernel gibt. v=495-44-6 aber eine Abhängigkeit der anderen Kernel ist.

Ich sehe da 2 Optionen.
1.) Sichere bissl Zeitaufwendig: Neue aktuelle ISO runterladen und neu installieren. Die sollten jetzt alle Kernel 5.15 haben.

2.) Brechstange: ‘nvidia-utils’ deinstallieren, Kernel update machen, im neuen Kernel booten (& hoffen das er es tut ), dann 5.13er Kernel deinstallieren und zuletzt dann updaten.

Erstmal danke. Ich habe jetzt in der Zeit folgendes gemacht. Unter dem Kernel 5.13 die Nvidia Treiber im Manjaro-Einstellungsmanager deinstalliert und anschließend über die Kommandozeile den 5.10er Kernel installiert. Das hat geklappt. Im 5.10er Kernel gebootet und die Updates für das System installiert. Auch alles i.O.

Nun möchte ich gerne im Manjaro-Einstellungsmanager den Nvidia Treiber wieder installieren. Dann kommt folgendes:

Das kommt bei allen drei Treibern, die zur Auswahl stehen, raus…

Das ISO war das aktuellste von der Manjaro Seite. Version 21.1.2. Wobei das natürlich die Community Edition ist, da ich gerne Cinnamon nutzen wollte. Die offiziellen Editionen sind wohl 21.2.0. Evtl. ist da der 5.15 Kernel drin.

Es muss doch möglich sein, für den 5.10er Kernel den Nvidia-Treiber wieder drauf zu bekommen, ohne große Schmerzen dabei zu kriegen…

Ich habe jetzt mal den 5.15er Kernel manuell installiert und teste gleich die Installation des Nvidia Treibers.

EDIT: Beim 5.15er Kernel, der auch gut läuft, genau das gleiche Problem. Die Treiber lassen sich nicht installieren und es kommt die gleiche Meldung wie oben…

Hm, der findet da noch Kernel 5.13 Teile.

Schau erstmal mit

mhwd-kernel -li

… ob der 5.13er wirklich deinstalliert ist.

Ansonsten nochmal mit

sudo mhwd-kernel -r linux513

… deinstallieren.

… denn hier sucht er noch den nvidia-Treiber für den 5.13er Kernel.

… Ja, das wird wohl so sein.

Sooooo, es ist geschafft. Ich habe gerade noch, bevor kisun geschrieben hat, den Kernel 5.13 deinstalliert. Das hatte ich nämlich vergessen, sorry…

Danach konnte ich den Nvidia Treiber 495 installieren.

Was für eine schwere Geburt. Ich bin davon ausgegangen, dass er unter dem aktuell gebooteten Kernel auch automatisch, bei der Installation des Treibers, den Aktuellsten dazu heraussucht.

Vielen lieben Dank an alle für Eure Geduld und Mühe. Spätestens nach dem letzten Beitrag von kisun, wenn ich nicht schon vorher selber drauf gekommen wäre, hätte es aber geklappt!

Ich muss ja zugeben, unter Linux Mint hatte ich da bisher noch keine größeren Probleme. Ich lasse mich aber nicht so schnell entmutigen und mache jetzt erstmal ein Backup mit Timeshift. Danach spiele ich ein Weilchen mit dem System rum. Wenn es mich abschließend überzeugt, steige ich komplett auf Manjaro um.
