Hi! Today I received a used Lenovo IdeaCentre, running an AMD Athlon and Windows 10. Usual Win10 security stuff, so I removed the full-width 1 TB hard drive and supplied one of mine. Got into the Bios, set it to boot from USB, and off we go to installing Manjaro. The install went great. At the end, the reboot failed. The system just halted with a black screen. Repeated the install, same problem again. Checked all the bios settings again, still no joy. Grabbed LM 22.3 and the install went well, and so did the reboot. Hoping the Mint install might have worked some Wizard of Oz magic behind the digital curtain, I then tried again to install Manjaro. Again, no reboot. Currently reinstalling LM 22.3.
The details are missing : hardware configuration, research you’ve done, eventual steps you’ve already taken.
There is a known bug for amd with rebooting with latest kernels. Should be fixed in latest 7.2 which is not yet in the stable or in the isos.
I guess if you want you can try the latest testing or unstable iso, with latest kernel and give feedback if really fixed.
P.s. shame on me i cannot find the proper links for iso with final kernel 7.2, maybe someone can help here.
Thank you so very much! That’s my answer. I’ll pay attention as best I can and watch for developments. Just FYI, it also wouldn’t simply boot after I powered down the computer and powered it back up.
Although is tad risqué, you could install Manjaro “Anh-Linh” and update from there.
Just remember to switch to testing branch.
Did you try to get into TTY with Strg+Alt+F3? Which Manjaro image did you try to install - KDE Plasma, Gnome, or XFCE?
It’s KDE Plasma Cinnamon. With the system frozen and dark I didn’t try to type anything (and to be honest, I’m too ignorant to know what to type on my own, anyway, I’m an author, not a computer guy). Thank you for thinking about this and trying to help! I’ll let the thing run Mint for a while until the next Manjaro release comes out.
What is that? 
KDE Plasma and Cinnamon are two very different deskop environments — the first one being qt-based and the second one being gtk-based.
And having both of them installed in the same operating system is A Bad Idea™, for so many different reasons.
This sounds like they are not coming back.
I’m actually wondering if they have turned off ‘Secure Boot’.
If they have not Linux Mint would install properly and boot. Manjaro would install and not boot.
It doesn’t help @Scribe2, but I experienced a similar issue with the manjaro-gnome-26.1.0-260812-linux71.iso installed onto a VM. I flagged the issue in the release thread.
From experience with ThinkPads, ThinkCentres, and ThinkStations, if secure-boot remains activated, the Manjaro image doesn’t boot at all, so it’s not even possible to reach the installer, which is expected. @Scribe2 should be able to confirm if he disabled secure boot for his IdeaCentre, but yes, sounds like he’s not coming back.

Hi! Yes, I turned off “Secure Boot.” And yes, I’m coming back. With Manjaro running on all my computers (before long) this forum is on my favorites list and I do plan to be here on an occasional basis (as I already do with the Linux forums). Thank you!

If your hardware - for unknown reasons - won’t work with Manjaro, there is nothing we can do to change it.
If the reboot signal fails it is likely because the ACPI implementation expects a Windows specific shutdown signal.

I want to bring this to your attention: As opposed to Linux Mint, Manjaro kernels are always newer; with newer comes the latest improvements and advancements; those improvments may I repeat may cause an issue for older hardware - I have heard about it - never experienced it myself.
I was a die-hard Intel, non-KDE user until a few years ago.
But now - my main devices are all running AMD in various forms using KDE Plasma desktop.
- ThinkPad T495 AMD 3500U
- ThinkPad X13 AMD 7840U
- ThinkStation P620 AMD 5945WX + R9700
- ThinkCentre M75q AMD 5700GE
All computer systems has their quirks - especially if it is Made for Windows™
Linux kernel 7.2 has some huge improvements when it comes to running older AMD devices.
But Linux 7.2 also has some huge bug on amd up until rc6 so be sure to run the final version.
I think I recall that at the beginning of the 7.2 cycle; in any case the development cycles should never be used in production.
Linux 7.2 is at rc7 on stable branch; other branches at the final release.
On a sidenote - as developoer - I used 7.2.0rc6 and 7.2.0rc7 on my production workstation without any issues.
But I also custom build them ([How To] Compile a custom Manjaro kernel) because that way - I can keep the kernel isolated - reboot into a working kernel if too much noise is generated by the development kernel.
On a longer term - the approach also makes it possible to have a kernel built specifically for your system - without having to be too concerned about upstream issues.
First, sorry for the wrong key combination. I meant Ctrl+Alt+F3. It seems I should explain why my questions are important.
I asked for the Manjaro image because there are 3 officially supported ISO images, and we should know which one didn’t work out for you. Moreover, typing the key combination does not mean you should attempt to fix something. It would only provide further information namely whether the TTY is available or not. This is important to know, and why shouldn’t you be able to type?
Since you mention Cinnamon somehow this is available from the Manjaro website but clearly marked as Community Image.
