Manjaro not detecting wifi

Hi, im trying to enable wifi on my manjaro, however my manjaro isn’t detecting any modem.
i did a bit of googling and found a similar post, i followed the first set which said to execute the command inxi -Nazy which outputed the following

Network:
Device-1: Realtek RTL810xE PCI Express Fast Ethernet vendor: Dell
    driver: r8169 v: kernel pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1 port: d000
    bus-ID: 05:00.0 chip-ID: 10ec:8136 class-ID: 0200
  Device-2: Broadcom BCM43142 802.11b/g/n vendor: Dell Wireless 1704 802.11n
    + BT 4.0 driver: N/A modules: bcma pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 1
    bus-ID: 09:00.0 chip-ID: 14e4:4365 class-ID: 0280

i stopped at the next step where it said to go to the following link https://linux-hardware.org/?view=search and search for the chipID, specifically i couldn’t take the data outputed by the command above and find the vendorID/sub-vendorID deviceID/sub-deviceID , Bus and classID

here is a system info of my machine:

You inxi says:

Perhaps there is no driver installed. What says the output from:

pamac search linux510-broadcom-wl

Had a similar problem this morning on a dual-boot MacBook Pro. For no apparent reason, my wireless stopped working in Manjaro (but still worked perfectly when booting up in MacOS).

I resolved the problem by downloading/installing a fresh driver.

In your case, it appears that you have no driver listed for your Device-2 Broadcom BCM43142 wireless device that’s listed.

Are you familiar with how to find a workable driver (e.g., sudo pacman -Ss BCMxxxx) and install it?

install the package “linux510-broadcom-wl 6.xxxx” from package-manager, reboot and in case it’s not detected run

modprobe wl

(it’s possible that you need sudo rights, but try it first without sudo)

install it via command:
sudo mhwd -i pci network-broadcom-wl
or from system settings/manjaro settings/hardware configuration, and right click on broadcom and install;
reboot

No i am not familiar with that unfortunately.

[djamel@djamel ~]$ pamac search linux510-broadcom-wl
linux510-broadcom-wl 6.30.223.271-164 extra
Broadcom 802.11 Linux STA wireless driver BCM43142.

here’s what the command outputed.

[djamel@djamel ~]$ sudo mhwd -i pci network-broadcom-wl
[sudo] password for djamel:
Warning: a version of config 'network-broadcom-wl' is already installed!

it says its already installed.

i already installed the broadcom, however it seems that it doesnt detect it as u said.

[djamel@djamel ~]$ modprobe wl
modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/5.10.136-1-MANJARO
[djamel@djamel ~]$ sudo modprobe wl
modprobe: FATAL: Module wl not found in directory /lib/modules/5.10.136-1-MANJARO

it seems like it didnt find the wl module.

may you reboot and post the output of the inxi-command after rebooting.

You’re getting good support from others who are more knowledgeable. If you aren’t solving the problem, at some point I could only suggest the following:

sudo pacman -Sy linux519-rt-broadcom-wl
to download driver, then
sudo pacman -Su linux519-rt-broadcom-wl
to install, then reboot to activate/engage driver for your wireless.

Hopefully the guidance from others gets you there first

Hm, I personaly dont know what exactly ‘network-broadcom-wl’ will install but I assume it should install the linux510-broadcom-wl package.

But first please check if some kernel modules are blocked and post output from this:

grep blacklist /etc/modprobe.d/*

I guess he uses kernel 5.10.

No, actually I’m up to date with kernel 5.19 … but this was the most current version of the BCM43xxx driver I could find. It’s the one I’m using as of this morning - after my wifi blew out for some unknown reason when I booted up this morning.

EDIT: Ah, I get it… you mean the OP. Sorry!

Then perhaps he should reach for this version…
sudo pacman -Syu linux510-broadcom-wl

Ah ok. So this commands would work for you, not for him. But to adapt this @djamel only had to remove the 9 with a 0.

Right you are. Sorry to confuse matters … updated my post above for anyone else wandering along.
