Manjaro not booting; stuck at boot screen

Hello, my Manjaro installation used to work perfectly fine before I tried logging out and logging back in one time because I added my user to the uucp group and I was greeted by a black screen with a few messages saying

[ OK ] Finished Hold until boot process finishes up.
[ OK ] Started CUPS Scheduler.
[ OK ] Finished Terminate Plymouth Boot Screen.

instead of the login screen. I sat for minutes and nothing else happened.
there were the same messages after rebooting, sometimes the messages never show up and It’s just the boot splash screen.
here’s what I found in journalctl -p 3 -b

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Methinks the above should be clear enough. You’ve got a hardware problem. :man_shrugging:

what tests should I run to make sure It is/isn’t a hardware issue? or to pinpoint what may be wrong in hardware?

I thought maybe BIOS update since this is so old … but it looks to be as recent as is available.

I might look here for more;

sudo dmesg --level=emerg,alert,crit,err

shows the same messages as the top of my journalctl report

For more info you can look around in /var/log/*

When it comes to suggestions …

First you might try an older kernel.

As to ACPI errors in general…

I feel like this response is pretty decent:
https://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/476600/acpi-errors-how-why-and-whats-the-deal

Cross reference with this:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/DSDT

(such as using acpi_osi="!Windows2012")

But thats to do with how to configure your system with an old/problematic table or some other similar situation … not for ‘fixing’ failing hardware.

For troubleshooting/state of the hardware can also run some other tests … like hw-probe … or from outside the system … such as memtest or any of the utilities in UltimateBootDisk.

GRUB has no older kernels unfortunately, just fallback initramfs which doesn’t work either.
memtest successful, no errors.
boot.log ends with “Starting Terminate Plymouth Boot Screen.”, sometimes “Starting Bluetooth Service.” or “Starting Hostname Service.”
hw-probe didn’t find anything wrong.
I also tried to liveboot and that worked, Manjaro along with the KDE Plasma desktop loaded successfully (from the live USB), so I think It’s safe to say there’s nothing going wrong hardware-wise… I think I need to backup and reinstall

you only need to add older kernel LTS ( 5.15 , 5.10 , 5.4 )
you can do that with USB live manjaro and chroot
and adding menu grub to appears
GRUB_TIMEOUT_STYLE=menu
and choose in advanced config > others kernels

sudo manjaro-chroot -a
pacman-mirrors -c all
pacman -Syy
pacman -S linux54 linux510 linux515 linux-54-headers linux510-headers linux515-hearders
mkinitcpio -P
nano /etc/default/grub ( Ctrl+x for save)
update-grub
exit ( end-chroot )

failed to boot on all of the kernels…

is there 2 DDR3 memory inside ?
do you have try failback initramfs ?

only 1, and It’s a 4GB DDR3 (my bad)
tried on latest kernel to no avail

can you under chroot , provide link return

sudo manjaro-chroot -a

no display ( pipe ) for sddm ,
trouble on ACPI ABOR /ABOD

think we can ignore ACPI, It has been having troubles forever but It booted still.
how do I fix the display pipe though?

I backed up my drive and reinstalled my OS, works now.
