Hello everyone,
I read the Wiki regarding the installation of NVIDIA drivers and saw that the writer clearly stated that the “full” edition automatically installs the NVIDIA drivers.
Am I correct assuming that by using the minimal edition, I have to manually install and configure the proprietary NVIDIA drivers? The reason I am asking is that later on tonight, I am installing Manjaro on a friends laptop and want to do so in the shortest possible time.
I use Manjaro on my laptop but also had to manually install but blamed myself for maybe not choosing the correct option upon booting.
That’s not really a manual installation and configuration, because the Manjaro Settings Manager can do that for you if you tell it to.
At least, that’s how it is on the Plasma, GNOME and Xfce editions. I’m not really familiar with the Gnolme edition.
Then you’re better off using the full image, because with the minimal editions you need to install, configure a lot more, update, and then install additional components, while with the full image, you install, you update, and you’re done.
Thank you Aragorn,
would you, by any chance know, if Calamares gives me the option to uncheck components such as email, office etc during a full install?
In truth, I cannot tell you, because I haven’t installed Manjaro in 5+ years. This is still my initial installation as I installed the system back in April 2019, albeit that I’ve religiously kept it updated, of course.
What I do know is that you should have a choice at installation time regarding which office suite you want. Email software is never preconfigured and is left to the discretion of whoever sets up the system — and being a multi-user OS, different users can choose to use different email clients.
The reason I asked is that the install is mostly for graphics work so a minimal install would be perfect. Plus, a working NVIDIA/Cuda setup to install and configure A1111 which is very tedious, hence, I am asking for the fastest way to get Manjaro onto the device. Anyway, I will give it a try both ways, minimal first and if needed, do a full install. Thank you!
