Manjaro freezing when doing certain things

Hi, i am using manjaro for a week now and is great! the games run better tan windows and system is really light. But there is a problem, my manjaro sometimes when i try to install something or open something it freeze the tab and after that everything that i try to open freezes too until the hole system freeze and i need to restart to use desktop again. I think maybe there is something wrong with my computer to run linux distros, Ubuntu simply just doesn’t work, to installation to desktop there is tons of bugs and freeze all the time (Ubuntu bases distros like PopOS do the same things).

I am really scared that even manjaro will not work right in my pc, i’m tired of creating new system every time, if windows that is so heavy was running with no problems why linux are running so bad? And i dont want to go back to windows, i hate that thing with passion.

Going to the point now (sorry for the little vent) my manjaro usually freeze when i open the “add/remove apps” and freeze with any app really time to time. there is something i can do to make with run normal or i will need to go back to windows?

I am thiking of trying to reeinstall manjaro in my HD and see if it work, maybe the iso was broken (i tested but it can be still broken the one i used to install).

(obs: i just used linux mint years ago and just used for 10 months, i am almost full new to linux)

Anyway, here my system info that i could collect.

Hey @Netvor, whatever device is there it doesn’t look like it’s working well. Is it a gaming controller?
I would rule that out first.

If you google about the errors on your journal, you’ll get several results suggesting that you may need to pass a kernel parameter in your bootloader config. Check this out:

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=255722

To add the kernel parameter, see this HowTo guide and follow the procedure in the section Adding the acpi kernel to grub (Assuming your bootloader is GRUB).

Hope the above helps! :slightly_smiling_face:

Thank you for the reply!

I have reinstall my manjaro and the freezing problem is not showing up, but the pci erros still going, i tried seeing the links that you have send to me but i am still a little confused, i have to install windows on my pc to configure the kernel parameter? Again thank you for the reply and sorry for the late response.

Hi @Netvor

No, you don’t need to reinstall Windows to pass a Linux kernel parameter. This is something that needs to be done via command line on your bootloader configuration.

Assuming you’re using GRUB2 bootloader (most likely, since this is the one that Manjaro installs by default), you need to add the kernel parameter to the line below in the file /etc/default/grub:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

So, for instance, if you’re trying the kernel parameter pcie_aspm=off as suggested in the link from the Arch forum, you need to append that to the contents of that line and making sure it is within the quotation marks:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="[original_contents] pcie_aspm=off"

Then, you need to update the configuration with the command

sudo update-grub

If the above kernel parameter does not help, then you might want to try other parameters as per the other link provided before.

Hope this clarifies your question :+1:
