I have the same problem when trying to connect to my WiFi I am asked for a password but the connection keeps failing. The problem does not seem to be completely unknown.
I just switched from MXLinux to Manjaro today. With MXLinux the WiFi connection worked. 
Whatever MXLinux does or has differently on this point… there seems to be a solution for this. I have only unfortunately no idea where to start here.
