Manjaro ARM Gnome on M1 VMware Fusion Public Tech Preview 22H2

Any way to get Manjaro ARM Gnome to work on an M1 Macbook Pro running VMware Fusion Public Tech Preview 22H2?

I can run Ubuntu 22.10 but I want my beloved Manjaro instead.

I cannot use UTM or Parallels because it’s restricted what I can install on this Mac, only VMware Fusion.

Any plans for a build made specifically for VMware Fusion on M1?

Anyone managed to get it to work on VMware Fusion on M1?

I have Manjro Plasma dual booting on M1 - it works - reasonably - very unpolished - not recommandable.

Paralles works too - but I am not ready to cough up the subscription - I don’t need Manjaro on Parallels that bad.

Fusion I don’t know …

We have an internal installer based on Asahi Linux wich supports Manjaro natively on Apple Silicon. For now we only have a CLI and Plasma proflie, similar as Asahi has.

I updated it by now to Kernel 6.3 with native OpenGL 3.1 support. Speakers are still disabled but Audio can be run via Headphones.

I’m interested in running it in a VMware Fusion VM, not straight up on the hardware. Is there an installer for that?

No but you can use the efi-generic image and see if it boots.

I tried both gnome-generic and gnome-generic-efi and neither boots.
It should be possible to make it work though because I was able to boot Arch using the iso from https:// archboot .com/iso/aarch64/latest/

FWIW, VMware Fusion is at v13.0.2 now and it’s not a “tech preview” version anymore. Ubuntu 23.04 runs just fine on it.

I have manjaro arm running apple m2 mac mini. Using utm though.

It would be nice to make it work on Fusion. I had it working on an Intel Mac. Unfortunately I can’t install UTM on a work Mac, they only allow Fusion.

Second that, would really like to get Manjero running on Fusion also
