Manage kernels without meta package

I currently have:

===> mhwd-kernel -li
Currently running: 6.1.170-1-MANJARO (linux61)
The following kernels are installed in your system:
   * linux510
   * linux61

Before upgrading the system, my plan is to:

1. Update the repository and respond no to " Replace linux510 with core/linux-lts-meta?"
2. Uninstall linux510
3. Install linux66
4. Update the system

I’ll manage long-term release future notifications via kernel.org, reading the manjaro announcement forum and reviewing the “List of changes can be found here” link which appears before the survey.

Am I missing anything?

1. It is better to go with 6.18 instead of 6.6. There have been some important security-related changes to pamac, pam, et al, which were not implemented yet in 6.6, and which require a special approach in kernels older than 6.12.

2. You cannot remove a running kernel, so you’ll have to install the new kernel first and boot into it before you can uninstall the old one.

Yes, you’re missing the fact kernel 5 got removed. The meta package is only offered if you’re running an unsupported kernel.

So the plan should be to install 6.12 and 6.18 and then remove 5, 6.1 and meta.

In the future please also read the update announcements (since i wrote that kernel 5 is removed there some time ago).

I did thus why I was removing linux510. I might be a bit behind I do look forward to when the list of changes appear on “\gitlab.manjaro.org/-/snippets” again.
