Making a seccondary ssd usable

I have a second, bigger ssd that i wish to use for media and games. No matter how hard I try to fstab, gparted and otherwise do my own best hard work to find a solution; it simply will not work.

its plugged in, visible and editable in terms of partitions and UUID’s. But nothing I do is allowing me to actually use it.

any help on getting this sorted would be great,

thanks

Can you not mount it as home/data using the uuid in fstab? That’s what I’ve done and store all my steam games on home/data

I suggest you learn how Linux filesystem works. Start with this

no. If i try to mount it i get an error saying “no object for dbus interface”. And thats after doing a bunch of fixing for it. And before that, when I tried to mount it it would work, but i wouldnt be able to make a file or access it in anyway.

Thank you, but I have done lots of reading on such things and I am not a step closer to getting this to be working. I skimmed though that post, and none of it is alien to me

Your /dev/sdb/ has a MBR partition table, have you tried changing it to GPT?

There are no partitions listed, what does lsblk say about the partitions on /dev/sdb

And please don’t take this the wrong way, but have you committed the changes in gparted? (I’ve made the mistake a few times when in a hurry and wonder where the partitions went that I’ve just made before rebooting, forgetting to apply the changes… and scratching my head)

lsblk told me 1 healthy ext4 partition. But anyhow, i have changed it to gpt now and formatted the whole thing to ext4 as before. Still though, there does not seem to be a change that i can see.
lsblk:

NAME MAJ:MIN RM SIZE RO TYPE MOUNTPOINT
sda 8:0 0 238.5G 0 disk
└─sda1 8:1 0 238.5G 0 part
sdb 8:16 0 111.8G 0 disk
├─sdb1 8:17 0 94.6G 0 part /
└─sdb2 8:18 0 17.2G 0 part [SWAP]

sda1 is what im dealing with.

and yes, i do press apply :stuck_out_tongue:

edit: oh and i cant mount it because of the “no object for d-bus interface” error

well i got it working by editing fstab.
UUID=X /mnt/X defaults,X 0 0 -att
