Is it possible to make Gnome or another desktop environment look as light and (in my eyes) elegant as Chrome OS? I would be happy to receive hints on how this could be done.

Possibly fiddling with Dash to Panel and using Vince’s ChromeOS-theme? I’m sure you can find others who have asked the same question searching the web.

Read the instuctions slowly and carefully. Check if compatible with with your current Gnome version (44, 42, 43 etc.) and good luck!
There is a great Windows 10 and 11 looking and macOS too. Don’t know if ChromeOS but I’m sure there is a cuple materia design ones which should feel about the same.
