LTS Kernel 6.1.x Inspiron 3180 battery reporting 100%

POWER_SUPPLY_CYCLE_COUNT, POWER_SUPPLY_VOLTAGE_MIN_DESIGN, POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_FULL_DESIGN, POWER_SUPPLY_CHARGE_FULL, POWER_SUPPLY_MODEL_NAME, are absent or wrong values.

Bump from LTS kernel 5.15.x to 6.1.x on Dell Inspiron 3180. Have a wifi problem on both that is resolved with kernel boot option acpi_force_table_verification and a Laptop battery reporting issue with Kernel 6.1 that I can’t pin down.

Sometimes it works and the major difference is that the Xfce power manager reports the Model Name as “DELL PGYK586”. I’ve had it not work on a boot but then work when resume from sleep so it feels like miscommunication and/or timing.

The thing is, it does seem to report discharge and maybe remaining time but the battery indication thinks we’re always at 100% charge. Tried various kernel boot options. The lshw output seems to pick up some of that missing information even when xfce4-power-manager doesn’t. Like we’re not communicating something properly.

Based on the ACPI messages these kernel boot options should be used:

acpi_osi=Linux acpi_force_table_verification amd_iommu=off pcie_aspm=off

Note that your post was moved from XFCE to Support as it is not an issue with the Xfce Desktop Environment.

I run a practically identical setup of Manjaro on 10 platforms including stand-alone portable SSD installs. Curiously, I’m also seeing significant audio drop-outs with pipewire/wireplumber, over HDMI, on an A10-7870K AMD rig, that disappears completely when going into Suspend with an immediate Resume.

So… in one case, I have an audio problem, and another, a battery reporting issue, that both clear when the hardware is put to sleep then woken up. Completely different hardware platforms, both AMDGPU but I think this is something to do with the kernel. Something difficult to isolate.
