Login screen not shown when HDMI cable not connected

Hi,

I’ve recently bought a new LG 38 Ultra Widescreen. Before, I had two BenQ monitors connected via Thunderbolt and mini Display port on my laptop. After the latest update to Wynsdey I had some troubles with the OS, which I could finally solve be switching from Xorg to Wayland. However, with my new screen I’m facing the following issue now: When no external monitor is connected via HDMI cable, no login screen is loading, even on my build in laptop screen I just have a small white dash in the upper left corner. If I connect the new monitor (or an old one) via HDMI, I’m able to login. I’m also able to plugin the new monitor via Thunderbolt after successful login. If I try to switch to a different TTY while connected via Thunderbolt, my screen just appears frozen and I can’t see the TTY (works when connected via HDMI).
And as soon as I reboot no login screen is shown and I need to switch to HDMI again.

I already tried to apply SDDM - ArchWiki but w/o success. I didn’t try SDDM - ArchWiki yet, because I think something is messed up with the detected screens. Can somebody help in “resetting” the detected screens completely?

I’ve also tried sudo nvidia-xconfig and I ever since have a very “basic” Nvidia settings view for my Gforce RTX 3080 where I can’t configure anything:

Something I found strange about the inxi output is

that my primary screen seems to be eDP-1 (laptop screen) as it is rendering the application launcher and status bar.

Note: As of SDDM version 0.20, Wayland sessions are listed and can be started from SDDM, but the SDDM greeter itself still runs in X11 mode by default, although an experimental Wayland greeter can be enabled.

So probably try the experimental wayland mode first. :arrow_up:
