Lenovo Legion Pro 7: Low sound output; only 2 of 4 speakers working (Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H) realtek alc 3306

hi, so… i use manjaro on my work laptop and now I happeend to have purchase another one for gaming, lenovo legion, and its the audio again, i used to have audio problems with my work one and they have got resolved and I am facing audio issues with the new one again. actually I wanted to try a different distro and went to bazzite for my gaming laptop, and because it is immutable, I cannot make any changes where it is needed, tried few things pulse audio and alsa mixer, no results. and did some digging on the internet and i came to find out that linux kernels dont recognise my audio setup or chipset or something… I am not a pro at this drivers stuff. I tried to find answers from bazzite community and it is awefully silent unfortunately.

the audio is tiny and only coming from two of my four speakers, fortunately the issue has been resolved apparently, there are many legion used facing the same issue, and some of them have offered a bounty to the ones who resolve the issue, there is this git hub page which solved the issue, they have offered to patch the kernel and install the firmware, supposedly if I use kernel 7.3 or above and install the firmware that is provided, I do not need to patch the kernel, I thought the manjaro community would come for my rescue again, removed bazzite and installed manjaro, installed 7.3 rc1, and installed the firmware as shown in the git hub page… and restarted my laptop, the sound is still tiny, any one who can come to my rescue please?? and thank you for the time

yes it is, it is not just woofers, my laptop has two tweeters and two woofer, the tweeters also sound really tiny, very less volume, generally my laptop sounds really loud even at ten percent volume, now they are dumb, i mean almost mute

Yes, the 7.3 has this config option, however when compiling the kernel it was not set, hence even though the firmware is in place the kernel doesn’t use it. @philm could you have a look?

since manjaro is based on arch, i guess what I have done is enough, the git page said there is no need to patch the kernel if i use 7.3 rc-1 or above, I am no pro at this patching stuff, so I just did what the git page said which is to add the .bin file to lib/firmware and updated the kernel, it still didn’t work.

Upstream status

The AW88399 HDA side codec driver has been merged into the Linux kernel and will ship starting with kernel 7.3-rc1.
Once you are running kernel 7.3-rc1 or later, the laptop’s woofers will work without any custom kernel, provided the aw88399_acf.bin firmware is installed in /lib/firmware

I think the reason is that zcat /proc/config.gz | grep -i aw88399 didn’t show

CONFIG_SND_HDA_SCODEC_AW88399=m
CONFIG_SND_HDA_SCODEC_AW88399_I2C=m

but # CONFIG_SND_HDA_SCODEC_AW88399_I2C is not set. Hence the kernel needs to be recompiled with the CONFIG_SND_HDA_SCODEC_AW88399 config option. Perhaps it was just missed because it’s new. Anyway, without this it can’t work.

In Lenovo Legion Pro 7: Low sound output; only 2 of 4 speakers working (Legion Pro 7 16IAX10H) realtek alc 3306 - #10 by jofi i notified Philip. He compiles the Manjaro kernels. There is already a newer version 7.3.0-rc2-1-MANJARO on the unstable branch. I just checked it but this config option is missing there too so i also get
