I notice the Lazarus version is still 3.4 in the stable repository. Most other rolling distros have 3.6 and if I compile it from source, it works fine in Manjaro. Are there still issues with Lazarus 3.6 for it not to be in stable yet?
I read it usually takes about 2 weeks to move from testing to stable but Lazarus 3.6 has been in testing for way more than 2 weeks.
Welcome to the forum!
What you need to understand first and foremost when it comes to package versions, is that Manjaro isn’t just a rolling-release distribution, but a curated rolling-release distribution.
Therefore, updates are bundled together, and unless there is a solid reason as to why any particular package would need to be upgraded in the Stable branch — such as in the event of a serious security hazard, or a crippling bug that causes the system to crash — the newer versions of the packages are kept in the Unstable and Testing branches until the next major Stable Update.
Speaking of which, it won’t be all too long anymore now before the next Stable Update comes along — it has been delayed due to issues with Plasma 6.2 and with the Nvidia drivers, respectively.
Be sure to subscribe to notifications for the Stable Updates category, because every Stable Update comes with a dedicated announcement thread, the first post of which contains a brief overview of the important changes, and the second post of which contains the known potential gotchas and how to work around them. (The same is true for the Testing Updates, by the way.)
Thanks, that is very clear. I will wait for the next stable update. I did subscribe to notifications from Stable Updates.
