Latest Chromium (engine) hangs using edit bookmarks (manager)

Since the last two update of chromium when trying to bookmark a page if you then choose “edit” to bring up the dialog to select another folder the browser will hang (screen shudders like an infinite loop behavior and process must be killed)

Seems to not be chromium specific but the engine as those using google chrome/brave have been noticing the same although not with vivaldi. I updated, it started happening and then I noticed that just since yesterday there was another chromium update so was hoping that this issue was noticed and a fix was released. So I updated with that but the issue remains. From what I can tell it’s not just that dialog but related to the bookmark manager code in general.

Version 121.0.6167.184 (Official Build) Arch Linux (64-bit)

in the meantime how (using pamac or pacman) can I downgrade to 120.0.6099.216-1 (as was done at the link above).

I figured out the downgrade

pacman -U file:///var/cache/pacman/pkg/chromium-120.0.6099.224-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.zst

and in pacman.conf

IgnorePkg=chromium

as I discovered this all can be done in pamac in the advanced tab

BTW this downgrade fixed the issue per the other post.

I don’t have the issue in my back-up browser, ungoogled-chromium:

Version 121.0.6167.184 (Official Build, ungoogled-chromium) (64-bit)

I cannot reproduce with the same version Chromium on XFCE.

The same here.

Cannot reproduce on 122.0.6261.39-1, and could not previously either.

Anyone with the issue checked clean profile, turning of extensions, etc ?

Since you are using Brave and Google Chrome - it must be something on your side.

With Unstable branch → Chromium → Version 122.0.6261.39 (Official Build) Arch Linux (64-bit) your described issue(s) cannot be reproduced.
