Laptop will not boot on battery alone

My laptop will not boot when it is on battery. It begins to boot, shows some bootup text, then shuts off. It boots fine when plugged with a cord. It also boots fine on the battery when booting into Windows, and can run for about 4 hours before needing a charge. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
