Laptop webcam not found

My problem is that my webcam is not found, e.g., I open a chatting webpage, where the webcam can be activated, my webcam is not found. Also, if I open the software Cheese, no camera is detected. My laptop has a webcam and it less than 2 months old. Thus, the webcam should work - I hope so.

Please confirm if the camera worked on windows or any other linux os? My research suggests that this is due to missing driver. There 3 ways to solve this problem. First will be switch to windows if camera is that important for your usage. Second would be to compile a kernel with the driver support yourself as mentioned in the second link or wait for a newer kernel. Try installing kernel linux63 aka version 6.3 and boot into that to see if it works.

I have tried the kernel version 63 - the camera still could not be found. Now, I try to install windows using a virtual machine. The software which I intend to use for that is called boxen. Thank you for your reply, I will keep you updated.

Boxen does not allow me to specify the installation path of widows. Oracle VirtualBox is better, however, windows 11 says, my laptop would not fulfil the minimal requirements. This is not true, since it originally came with windows 11. Anyhow, I do not want to devote too much time to this issue. I just wait for updates.

Thank you for your time and effort. This thread can be closed.
