Laptop Lenovo V15 G4 AMN

I read a while ago that Lenovo V15 G4 Lenovo AMN has a problem with Linux. Keyboard and touchpad are not recognized. I am thinking about buying it and installing Manjaro. Has that issue been resolved or not?

thanks in advance and English is not my first language

If you know beforehand the device has compatibility issues - don’t buy it.

Please provide information about the apparent problem you speak of. Without that, we can’t even begin to know how to answer your question.

Regards.

Welcome to the Manjaro community

As a new or infrequent forum user, please take some time to familiarise yourself with Forum requirements, and the many ways to use the forum to your benefit:

Update Announcements

The Update Announcements contain important information and a Known Issues and Solutions section that should generally be checked before posting a request for support.

System Information

While information from *-fetch type apps might be fine for someone wishing to buy your computer, for Support purposes it’s better to ask your system directly; :eyes:

Output of the inxi command with appropriate parameters will achieve this (naturally, formatted according to forum guidelines) and will generally be more useful for those wishing to help:

inxi --filter --verbosity=8

or the short form:

inxi -zv8

Be prepared to provide output from other commands whenever asked. It’s equally important to provide as much actionable information as possible in your first post, rather than simply indicating there is a problem.

I found this

" I have a Lenovo V15 g4 AMN with AMD Ryzen 5 7520U Tried to install multiple distros (Fedora, Ubuntu), but internal touchpad and keyboard are not working. Usb mouse and keyboard work perfectly, also no graphic issues. Keyboard work in bios and in grub. I have tried disabling secure boot and some other modern bios options, also upgraded bios.

The device does not officially support linux via Lenovo. Some posts suggest to try using the pci=nocrs kernel option. I have installed Linux on several old machines and never had this issue.

I wonder what can cause internal keyboard not being recognized. Shouldnt keyboard drivers be included in kernel ? Does Lenovo somehow mess up ACPI _CRS bios spec"

You may have misunderstood. We appreciate that it’s not working, but the question was concerning this:

Can you provide any official information from Lenovo about the problem? Is there perhaps a confirmed bug report (or similar) that documents the issue?

Otherwise, a random forum post is not very helpful. If Lenovo confirms that Linux is not supported, then there is likely very little that can be achieved here.

Regards.

Lenovo appears to have clearly stated Linux support is non-existing.

The device in question is no longer available from Lenovo.

Unless you have an itch to scratch - and don’t mind the challenge in troubleshooting - don’t ever buy a device with so obvious issues.

You will come to regret it. I would look at P16 instead - as this device has Linux support and can be delivered with preinstalled Ubuntu.

According to one of the links in the above search, kernel 6.6 and above should work. But why risk it…
If you want to buy it second hand just take a live manjaro usb image with a recent kernel a test it before buying. If you want to order online…maybe just don’t.

In the end it is your decision… and if at all possible - test the system with the latest Manjaro ISO…
