Laptop Dell Inspiron 15 internal microphone not working

Hi all,
I have just fresh install on my Dell. I have SimpleScreenRecorder installed, video is fine but for audio, all I get is loud static noise. Any input is appreciated. SimpleScreenRecorder works fine on my HP 470g3 laptop.

In SimpleScreenRecorder switch Audio Input-Backend to ALSA and see if it is better.

Thanks @jrichard326 I did as you suggested Backend:ALSA and tried all 5 Source options.
Nothing worked.

Hi
simplescreenrecorder is for some reason in the AUR now.

I might be wrong but try installing sof-firmware. I have a similar Dell laptop and it fixed audio output for me.

I suggest:

  1. check audio capture settings in ALSA to ensure audio capture is enabled for Internal Mic and level set correctly
    alsamixer --card=PCH --view=Capture

  2. Then Press F4 to view Plaback settings;
    unmute the playback control for Internal Mic monitoring and turn level up;
    microphone audio should then be audible in headphones

Do not try this using speakers instead of headphones or it may result in a loud feedback loop

@ishaan2479
Manjaro ISOs now include package sof-firmware so OP probably already has package installed

Thanks every one I’ll do as @banjo suggested and look in manjaro repos.
