LAN and WiFi (in some cases) ethernet not working, but on windows it does

Hi there,

after using manjaro and Windows 8 in dual-boot without problems since one week I have problems with my ethernet on manjaro. LAN is not recognized nor working and strangely some WiFi spots, too. Other WiFi spots are working. On Windows everything works.

Here my

Does anybody have an idea what I can do?
Help appreciated.

:+1: Welcome to Manjaro! :+1:

There was a large Windows update about the time you started experiencing this issue and you’re probably affected by something called a side-effect so try this first:

  • When rebooting from Windows to Manjaro, shut down the computer completely in Windows then press the power button to boot into Manjaro. That is a cold boot
  • When re booting from Manjaro into Windows, you can still warm boot.
  • Never ever hibernate and boot the other OS while the first OS is in hibernation state

If the issue persists after this handy workaround, please shout out!

:crossed_fingers:

Thanks for your quick reply, Fabby.
Unfortunately your workaround does not work in my case. I tried it several times.

Hi and welcome to the forum

You might have some issues with fast boot. Windows initialises the hardware and keeps it ‘alive’ between boots to boot faster. Consequence of this is that booting another OS cannot initialise the hardware correctly. See the link below to disable fast startup and if this solves the issue for you. If not there might be some other problem, but this is easy to check if fast boot is a option on windows 8 (you might want to upgrade or is there a specific reason to run windows 8?)
