Kodi on Manjaro ARM (RPI5), no video, only audio

Manjaro ARM on a Raspberry Pi 5. Kodi installs and op
ens fine. Videos have only audio and no video. Just a black screen.

The only error messages in Kodi log are:

What video are you trying to play? I tested kodi-rpi and kodi-rpi-git and have no issues with X in XFCE on my pi5.

I am on KDE Plasma, don’t know if that would make any difference. I have tested x265 and Av1 files and both of them failed to show anything on screen. VLC plays both of them fine, but Kodi does not show the video, but the audio plays fine. I don’t think it is a codec issue as Kodi is known to be able to play anything you throw at it. I think there is a render issue here which can be seen in the error: " GLES: BaseYUV2RGBGLSLShader - unsupported format 3".

I tried to disable hw acceleration in Kodi, did not work. I also can not select any other render method other than “auto”.

There is no HW decoding with kodi running in a DE. Originally kodi-rpi was set up to boot straight into a TTY outside of a DE and would not work at all in a DE and later on the author built it where it would also work in a DE with out HW. When booted into a TTY it does have h265/h264 HW for most pi devices except the pi5 does not support h264.

Would it make a difference if i start Kodi from the command line instead of the start menu?

UPDATE: I did manage to get video playback by first doing “ctrl+alt+F3” which i think means switching to another TTY and then type “kodi” and enter. Now everything plays.

UPDATE 2: Never mind. I installed the flatpak version and it has everything. External addons (which can not be found in manjaro repos) are there. It works from within the desktop environment. I might start to like this flatpak thingy.
