RGB controller software usually comes with a new mainboard. The problem is that the software is only for Windows.

To have RGB work in Linux, you must have compatible software – This is where OpenRGB comes into play.

The binary OpenRGB package can be built from the AUR:

pamac build openrgb-bin

Make sure to rebuild it after system updates.

OpenRGB is now available from the official Manjaro repositories (thanks @Yochanan):

sudo pacman -S openrgb

I hope this helps.

Cheers.

ya i tried doing that that but it is not detecting the keyboard

Then you might be out of luck.

The general consumer range of keyboards seem to be well supported but when it comes to cheaper or lesser-known brands, it’s a case of pot luck.

You don’t say why you can’t turn them on, so I’m guessing that you don’t know how.

There’s always/usually a key combo to turn the backlight on/off. There’s usually a symbol on the key.

From the only photo I can find, I’d guess it’s Fn + Scroll Lock (seems to say Scroll), but it’s difficult to tell as not all keys are shown.

Do you have a manual?

ya ik this is a lesser-known brand
thanks for the reply

ik i have used this keyboard in windows and i can turn o n and off by pressing the scroll key but when i shift from windows to linux the rgb lights stops even after trying the function it is not turning on

Just FYI, openrgb is now in the repos. No AUR package is required.

(Post updated)

…I didn’t even like flashing modem lights back in the day…

That’s very weird, I’ve never had an RGB keyboard that didn’t work (I don’t use windows).

Fn is normally internal to the keyboard (at least for windows style keyboards, which is most of them). The OS shouldn’t make a difference.

Did you have to install anything for windows?

Have you tried with/without Fn?
Are there combos to increase or decrease the brightness?
Do other Fn combos work?

If you use evtest the Fn key shouldn’t register, as it’s internal, but Mac keyboards send it to the computer. I have seen some keyboards that have a windows and Mac mode, but even then I’d expect the backlight to be internal (however I’ve never had a Mac, or a Mac keyboard).

If the keyboard didn’t connect properly, it might not be receiving enough current. Or perhaps the USB is configured differently and isn’t providing enough current. Both seem highly unlikely, but have you checked in the dark to see if they’re lighting up very dimly?

@soundofthunder

I use openrgb to disable the RGB on my RAM.

I bought RAM without any RGB feature…
…it was difficult to find for a while (pandemic years).

Which is how I ended up with RGB RAM, that and impatience.
