Kernel 6.18 is still not listed as LTS

Very small thing: kernel 6.18 is still not listed as LTS

The manjaro-settings-manager cannot list a kernel as LTS unless the manjaro-settings-manager itself is updated.

It is a consequence of the ad hoc way the software was written, and its developer chose to do it that way because new LTS kernels only appear once a year.

As it’s not on kernel.org too.

Yes it is… :backhand_index_pointing_down:

It’s a bit early to switch to it anyway.

But only on that subpage, while the main page lists 6.18 as “stable”, not as “longterm” like the others.

So… is 6.18 LTS or not?

I’d assume user/group sddm as well as home /var/lib/sddm can be removed afterwards, along with configuration files in /etc. Or would there be any reason to keep that stuff?

They will mark 6.18 as LTS on the kernel front page after 6.19 becomes mainline (it is in the rc7 now)

Yes, it is.

No, you can remove it. It’s no longer required by anything.

LTS flag is usually added to Manjaro Settings Manager when the next stable kernel version (6.19.0) is released

mainline: 6.19-rc8 2026-02-01
stable: 6.18.8 2026-01-30

i’ve had this conundrum before as well, i think the LTS heir-apparent, becomes the LTS only after the next kernel (6.19 in this case) becomes a stable release.

although not relevant arch still has 6.12 as its LTS kernel and 6.18 as latest kernel.

Some distributions - e.g. Ubuntu - has a different LTS kernel than the upstream kernel maintainers.

Thus the question is valid.

Manjaro follows upstream kernel maintainers and as they have declared 6.18 for the kernel to receive back-ported fixes - so it will also be the one Manjaro will be providing, going forward - when the next kernel 6.19 has been released.

Manjaro Linux main release ISO’s are based on Linux 6.18, because upstream kernel.org has designated this as LTS kernel.

Whether it is printed as a bold headline or in the list on a secondary page is irrelevant.

As there has been no backporting yet - the 6.19 kernel is rc8 - there is no version 6.18 LTS, there is just the Linux kernel version 6.18 - which will be marked as LTS when that time comes.

Until then accept the note on the release page - read the rest of the page for the full picture

Longterm

There are usually several “longterm maintenance” kernel releases provided for the purposes of backporting bugfixes for older kernel trees. Only important bugfixes are applied to such kernels and they don’t usually see very frequent releases, especially for older trees.

I have found this resource to be the most current and reliable.

Kernels 6.18, 6.12, 6.6, 6.1, 5.15 and 5.10 are clearly indicated as LTS:
