Kdenlive no longer starts

Kdenlive no longer starts.

Since I had nothing to lose from past kdenlive projects, I just started deleting kdenlive things in config and cache. Once I deleted kdenliverc in .config [along the directories that kept regenerating in config and cache], kdenlive starts properly. Before you try any of this, noticed that kdenlive just hangs, so kill existing kdenlive before you proceed. And make backups of config/cache if you value them.

Must be something local to your system, because it does start here on mine. :man_shrugging:

Yes, that helps. I renamed kdenliverc and Kdenlive starts right up. But unfortunately, the problem is far from solved. Since the updates on December 8, the sound is completely distorted when I insert audio filters, such as Deesser or Haas Stereo Enhancer, into the track. I have to switch to AppImage, which fortunately works perfectly.

@Aragorn

it does start here on mine. :man_shrugging:

Please add an audio filter such as Deesser. I’m curious to see if everything will still be fine for you.

No issue starting Kdenlive here, either.

Yes, Kdenlive is starting up normally for me again. But when I apply some audio filters, the audio becomes extremely distorted. That never happened before update on December 8. It’s not all effects, but it’s definitely these ones: Crofffeed, Deesser, Haas Stereo Enhancer, Limiter, Stereo tools etc.

And no problem in AppImage.

Kdenlive 25.12.0-3 released 2025-12-14 includes a patch for the splash screen

This is only conjecture. Maybe it’s a problem with one of the effects themselves. It might be worth seeing what KDE have to say.

I started my older test computer (no updates for quite some time): Kdenlive 25.08.1 = everything ok.
Did the major Manjaro update and upgraded Kdenlive to 25.12.0:

Kdenlive won’t start. Removed kdenliverc. Starts again. But now Kdenlive 25.12.0 has the same problems as on my main computer: totally overmodulated sound with a whole range of audio filters.
Again: AppImages no problems.

The audio problem sounds like those DT experienced, never mind the title it is somewhat misleading, it’s really about his audio problems:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQsQJ7uhDGA ≈18 min.
(N.b. he is very talkative, but I guess that comes with the “job”.)

DT video seems to be about an unrelated issue - dropped audio frames in OBS when recording desktop audio from a PipeWire sink monitor.
DT has outboard audio gear for DSP (DBX 231s Graphic EQ, DBX 166sx Compressor/Limiter/Gate, Behringer SX3040 Sonic Exciter) and would not need OBS audio filters
