KDE : problem suspend/resume

Hello everybody,

For 10 days now, my laptop has problem to suspend and to resume.
Autologin is enable.
So, i start the computer, everything is ok, plasma starts and i can work normally.
If i press the “suspend” button or if i write in a console “systemctl suspend”, screen hangs and i only have the white arrow cursor which is still moving. After 2 mins, session is suspended.
When i hit the power button to resume, i still have the freezed screen with the cursor.

If i start the laptop, log out from plasma and press the “suspend button” from the sddm screen, suspend/resume works !!!

I reinstalled Manjaro. Suspend/resume worked. I updated and rebooted, and suspend/resume stopped to work.

I think it’s a plasma related problem, so, how can i fix it ?

A little swap is always better than none, see → Swap - Manjaro

I cannot say what causes this - but as you state

At the basic level the kernel is responsible for the power state

I suspect ther may be a glitch with the synced kernel build - I cannot say for sure - but I suspect.

The kernel you are using is EOL, it will soon be removed, within 2-4 weeks it depends.

See → [Stable Update] 2024-08-08 - Kernels, Nvidia, Mesa, AMDVLK, Firefox, Thunderbird, Pipewire, Wine - #2 by philm

My suggestion is to sync the latest 6.10 kernel

sudo mhwd-kernel -i linux610

EDIT:
For the sake of verification - I have tested a KDE on bare metal using the same software level as you do and I cannot reproduce your issue.

I already updated the kernel before reinstalling : i even tried an old kernel in 5.something.
And since suspend/resume works when plasma is not started, as i already said, i think it’s plasma related.

I have tested with Plasma as well - clicking the Sleep button in the menu.
I have tested using terminal systemctl suspend and systemctl sleep where the latter only triggers what ever is available - starting with suspend - hibernate - of course - does not work as there is no swap registered.

All in all - cannot reproduce the issue.

The only thing I have not tested is using autologin.

So I suggest you try disabling autologin - restart - then see if you still can trigger the issue.

If it is plasma related - then it is local to your system - as the journal on my system also shows a similar powerdevil message → see https://0x0.st/XV3m.txt

The Archlinux wiki has some clues:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Power_management/Suspend_and_hibernate

In addition, here is an old but still good article how to debug suspend issues:
