Hi
After recent update I got yesterday 09/30/2022 I have this issue when running my laptop standalone, everything launches fine, but after connecting it to the dock with two other monitors, I’m getting stuck on the splash screen of Plasma. I have just the logo with the spinning gear icon. The gear is very laggy followed by my laptop fan turning at almost max speed.
If I switch to tty, I can run startx and I can get to the desktop, but that’s rather annoying and also if I try to restart the system, it puts me into an empty prompt on a screen, then it just hangs there.
If I boot the laptop with the laptop screen first and then connect the dock, everything also works as expected, the only thing this happens is when I’m trying to boot directly with the dock in.
I will provide any additional info if needed, since I can get in the DE, but I’d like to fix this somehow, so I don’t have to run startx every time.

did you try with different kernel, for example the 5.15 lts?
Can confirm this issue doesn’t occur with kernel 5.18.19-3-MANJARO I had previously. The system starts as expected while booting with this kernel

so could be a kernel thing … however the 5.18 is going to be no longer supported - end of life… you could create a new test user, reboot select the 5.19 and login with the test user, to rule out that some plasma config is messing the things up with the 5.19
Now after a reboot, I can’t even run the system with the old kernel, nor I can create another account. The system always starts with my primary one and when I want to log out, or change user, it doesn’t show me anything at all. I might try to clear the plasma config to be sure it’s not just that.

but you can boot with the 5.19 kernel, without the dock?
I’ve managed to boot without the dock, change the default user to log in to the testing account and it booted without an issue, so I suppose this might be caused by some messy config

so if you booted with the dock normally with the test user, try resetting your plasma - go to system settings/global theme, click defaults, check desktop layout, click apply, then clear your cache:
rm -rf ~/.cache/*
reboot - you do this in your main user - and test if it helped …
if not, rename the .config
folder to .config.bak
, reboot and see if that helped - of course you do this on the main user
Thanks!
This ^ and also mv ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc-old
Made the desktop functioning again. I need to readjust the panels, but that’s not that much work.
