KDE Plasma 6: My Desktop Performance decreased on my AMD Laptop after the update

Hello,
After i updated from KDE5 to KDE6 i saw my Window (from dolphin/Kate/Firefox) stuttering when i drag them in a cycle on my Desktop… it feels really unsmooth.

I just rolled back to KDE5, just to verify that im not imagine something into it.

Posting Inxi from KDE5 first and posting another Inxi after i updated to KDE6 again.

This you?

Yupp, so what you think it is?

Themen or cache?

Could be anything in there. You said its 4 years old and uncleaned.

Do the refresh steps and remove anything incompatible.

Make sure to use plasma6 addons (icons, themes, widgets).

Thanks for the points, i try that out… i will probably give feedback tomorrow, since its late.

Should i remove krunner5 before i update again? because its AUR now.

You should remove anything unsupported that you dont actively need.
That would be any AUR application you dont know you want.

To look at all foreign packages you could

pacman -Qmq

And yes of course it makes sense to remove any old plasma5 things that are not even in the repositories anymore.

You may be able to also remove any unneeded members of the old k5 group with something like

sudo pacman -Ru kf5

Orphans may also make sense:

sudo pacman -Rns $(pacman -Qdtq)

Yeah i got that, but i asked explicit about krunner5 before i update to plasma6 again, because of the AUR krunner5 creation.

I expect you talking about the other orphan’s only after the update is done.

You will have trouble trying to remove krunner5 from a plasma5 system.

Do the update and clean up as you go (accept replacements, etc) and afterwards.

Also, in case it needs saying, Dont Use Pamac, or at the very least Disable the AUR, and you will have less issues.

I switched themes, disabled icons did several restart… but nothing was helping.

I was thinking hey maybe it could be X11 and this was exactly the reason.

I activated Wayland and my desktop had the same smooth desktop as under Plasma5 with X11, but for Plasma6 i’am forced to use Wayland now. Otherwise the desktop performance will be terrible.

In addition to verify my result that it was wayland and wayland only and to make nothing else is involved:

I rolled system back for a third time, with my old Plasma5, old configs and to use all my customised user Settings on my 4 year old home user with the fancy theme’s and layout’s.

I update the system again (as i already did before, with logout/TTY) and the only problem that lead to the Performance loss was X11. Clicking on Wayland in SDDM solved it.

For me it looks like that AMD User’s need Wayland now for a smooth desktop, i hope that my Intel/Nvidia Gaming PC don’t force me to Wayland too.

Because i read that gaming performance is a mess under Wayland with Proton… maybe only related with nvidia GPU’s.
