I was just noticing that when I search for files through launcher, it doesn’t return any results (except for Manjaro documentation). Dolphin does not find the files I search for but baloosearch filename.ending finds the files OK.
I am just looking for files on my home/olividir/Documents, not on an external HDD.
File search settings are OK and are on the default settings, this is fairly new install. I honestly don’t know what to search for in terminal, but here are two pics for example. This file does exist inside of my Documents folder (I did check other files of course, and none was found).
From launcher:
This is super weird behavior because until now, ALL of the distros I have tried have had this functionality to search for files through launcher, and on my last Manjaro install, this function did work.
Kfinder (I think that is the name) Alt+space works fine in finding my files.
Any idea welcome
Sorry about the post on 24th of dec, and Happy Christmas (or holiday if you prefer that).
The little search bar which shows up on top of the screen is called KRunner (you can find its settings under system settings -> search -> krunner (please excuse if the wording differs a bit, as I am using German language in the system).
What @rexmalcolm is referring to is the settings of the application starter (the “start menu” in Windows speak). Right click on it, then you will have the option to open some settings where you can among others, include or exclude those things.
Sure, I probably should have mentioned that I did check Krunner, and searching for bookmarks, files, web are all on by default. Which is why I don’t understand why searching from start menu doesn’t return anything.
Only two options not selected, spellcheck and window gadgets (IF I translated that correctly).
Maybe “have you tried disable/enable it” works (spin on IT Croud)?
I think you are mixing up Krunner and the application starter. Krunner has its settings in the system settings. The one you are looking for is somewhere else and only applies to the application starter:
Move your mouse to the lower left hand corner of the screen onto the application starter icon, do a right click, select the settings (or similar). Then another window opens (see screenshot from above post). There are your options which are only applicable for searching from the start menu. It might look slightly different, depending on which of the three available application starters (start menues) you use.
Thank you for the suggestion. I disabled search for bookmarks, files and emails in the launcher, rebooted, enabled it an rebooted again, but no luck. Launcher still can’t find files.

EDIT
Now searching in Dolphin works, but search from launcher does not work.
I found one post where this problem was recreatable using KDE-plasma-GIT (being on testing, I have some of those).
FYI, after going to sleep and turning off the computer, the search through launcher does not work. So this method above seems to be a very temporarily solution.
OK, I did a fresh reinstall of Manjaro KDE. The search from launcher worked fine until I got my system onto testing branch. That makes me think that something about the KDE-git packages are to blame.
…
Seems like you enjoy being on testing and it’s fine but please don’t forget to mention that in your posts otherwise a) you are confusing people that come to help you and b) devs miss the chance to be notified early enough about potential problems (that’s the point of testing). Baloo on Stable is on version 5.76.0-1, on Testing 5.77.0-1!
