KDE connect, browse this device?

I get Permissions missing: filesystem access.

How do I grant it, do I get a notification on the phone? I have vision issues so it is hard to see.

Where is this error, on the phone or the pc? What type is the phone? I can tell you how to do it for android phone (pixel).

On the PC & the phone is a LG V35 ThinQ. hate that LG stopped making phones, the power on the back is a lot better, I always press it accidentally on other phones getting it out of my pocket.

If i correctly recall, such permission is called MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE.

If you have the package android-tools you can try:
adb shell cmd appops set org.kde.kdeconnect_tp MANAGE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE allow
then force stop the app:
adb shell am force-stop org.kde.kdeconnect_tp and open it again.

Generally what Dave wrote. It is also in the gui. The only thing is, i cannot remember when this restriction was implemented…i think it was first used in android 10. And i have forgotten how the things look on 9.
Basically the only thing you can do is to open the app properties from Settings - Apps - KDE connect, and to give all permissions possible.

Ya, I just had someone come do it for me (Vision issues). :frowning: The SMS, it has no contact listed??

You may have to give Android app the required permissions, you may also have to enable the plugins…

On android app, three dot menu on top right corner > plugin settings
Enable what you desire and Android should as you for required permissions

If it doesnt, like for ex you checked dont ask again box when you first ever launched the app, you may need to go into settings of your phone, search for apps, choose kde connect, go to permissions and enable desired, maybe the contacts permissio is disabled currently.

Got it, be cool if it let you browse all the files on the phone.

It does allow me to do that…
But since it’s annoyingly slow, I set it to only access Downloads folder. Or it tries to read the whole system.

Well, I don

t really need to see the whole sys, Iwould like to though.

Well, if you wish, then

In app > three dots on top right corner > plugin settings

Then where you see ‘Filesystem Access’
Rather than clicking on enable pill (which should be enabled)
Click on the text ‘Filesystem Accss’

There you can add multiple locations/directories you wish to access from PC.
You can click add button and select your phone’s ‘Internal Storage’ or similar directory depending on brand, that should give you full user files.

I have downloads folder and (unfortunately) Whatsapp because Meta poisioned India with whatsapp as default media, everyone use it.

Slight warning tho

If you have very old and slow device like I have a android go tablet that i once got from school, its painfully slow read/write speeds.
So only do large folders if you have decently fast and modern phone

Because as much as my experience is, I think it tried to load the whole contents, even in sub folders, everything at once at start…

If the phone is not rooted you won’t see the root filesystem. Expected.
