After updating to Stable 2024-10-01, I found kalarm was freezing up when trying to play an alarm sound and I would miss getting the alarm’s reminder message. There is supposed to be a fix for this sound error in the works, updating kalarm’s current ver 24.08.1-1 to ver 24.08.2. But meanwhile, the only sound that can be added to an alarm is by using kalarm’s “beep” option. Unfortunately, the beep is brief and not loud enough to get my attention at times.
So here is the workaround I came up with – the kalarm beep option activates the system bell and in System Settings / Accessibility / Bell, there is a way to specify a Custom sound for the bell. The sound files that kalarm uses are in /usr/share/sounds and you just have to point to the sound file you had been using prior to the recent update. Once kalarm gets the updated fixed version you can change everything back to normal.
