Just installed Manjaro KDE proprietary driver, but nvidia driver is not detected by system

Just recently installed Manjaro with proprietary nvidia drivers. if i run

nvidia-smi
NVIDIA-SMI has failed because it couldn't communicate with the NVIDIA driver. Make sure that the latest NVIDIA driver is installed and running.

and

inxi -G

last time i tried to install, i ended up in a tty screen and had to reinstall.

Hi @Tygalive, and welcome!

It would seem to me that that GPU is not supported by the latest, and thus default nvidia drivers. It requires a version from 304.135 to 390.132.

So have a look at this: [Support/How-To] Compile old/legacy Nvidia Proprietary Drivers [2020-12-30 Update Issue]

Thank you, let me go through and update

Tried the linked instructions. on windows my system runs 390xx and also here on linux 390xx is preinstalled by mwhd but the instructions build 340xx

cd nvidia-340xx-utils && makepkg -si
...
loading packages...
resolving dependencies...
looking for conflicting packages...
:: nvidia-340xx-utils and nvidia-390xx-utils are in conflict (nvidia-utils). Remove nvidia-390xx-utils? [y/N] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: removing nvidia-390xx-utils breaks dependency 'nvidia-390xx-utils' required by lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils
:: removing nvidia-390xx-utils breaks dependency 'nvidia-390xx-utils=390.144' required by linux510-nvidia-390xx
==> WARNING: Failed to install built package(s).

here it also says that it has failed to install the packages as they conflict with already existing 390xx drivers

I can’t find the GeForce 108 in neither the 340 series nor the 390 series driver in the “supported products” page although a lot of other Fermi-based adapters are supported by the 340 series:

GeForce 100M Series (Notebooks):
GeForce GTS 160M, GeForce GTS 150M, GeForce GT 130M, GeForce GT 120M, GeForce G 110M, GeForce G 105M, GeForce G 103M, GeForce G 102M

Can you provide a full inxi please?

inxi --admin --verbosity=7 --filter --no-host --width

Thank you for responding. actually from nvidia’s website NVIDIA DRIVERS Quadro Desktop/Quadro Notebook Driver Release 410 WHQL the driver would be 410.

  1. I’ve found in the “Supported products” tab of the 340 series…

  2. Switch to TTY2.

  3. Remove any nVidia 390 crap:

    pamac remove nvidia*

  4. and remove anything nvidia drivers that is already there, E.G.

    mhwd --remove pci video-hybrid-intel-nvidia-390xx-bumblebee

  5. Go back to:

    cd nvidia-340xx-utils
    makepkg -si

    and all other packages that need rebuilding

  6. Execute:

    pamac search nvidia | grep Installed

  7. The 340 series hybrid driver should now be installed.

  8. If everything is OK, reboot!

:innocent:

Thank you for the assistance. will update once done.

That’s the thing, the 340 driver build instructions are not for a hybrid setup as far as I know.

I found this:

https://wiki.archlinux.org/title/Bumblebee#Installation

:question:

I found this:

Thank you @Fabby
Thank you @omano

Installed bumblebee.
